    What makes you feel old?

That's where "spend a penny" came from.

    Next Car?

Did I say I wasn't confused??? Couldn't figure out how to add up 9, $2 coins the other day, had a feeling it wasn't $1.80 but $18.00 just seemed too high, had to ask my wife, and between us we figured it out. This getting old lark is not what it's cracked up to be. And I think T1 is just after...

    Next Car?

I don't have personal experience yet, but the number of ancient bad drivers on the road indicates out test isn't that severe. There's instances, of " if you only drive short distances close to home. you'll be OK" Aren't a lot of prangs close to home??? Perhaps that's why.

    Next Car?

Well that's a point, my assumption because they appeared straight after your post, was that they were in answer to you could be wrong, maybe they were answering an earlier question somewhere. In which case I apologise to them for attributing confusion to them. It's only theory on my part, but...

    Recurring motor fault with MGS5

Intermittent faults are a nightmare, fault codes just point in a direction, very detailed knowledge of what's in that direction is needed to predict what could have caused the fault code. It could mean hours of work pulling things apart to get to the bottom of it. Dealers just aren't equipped to...

    Next Car?

weird isn't it? I thought it was obvious what you meant from the start, surprised to see all the answers telling you how to improve your efficiency. But I thought confusion didn't just creep in. it flooded.

    Next Car?

Mr Spark, I think your use of "pull up" is confusing people, they think you mean "increase" so you aren't getting answers to your question. Sorry I can't help either, but it would be nice to know.

    Say Hello

My wife is 81 with a crook knee. She says the wide sill is the worst aspect of the car, but doesn't really complain about it, not a big deal for her.

    What makes you feel old?

Had a good session yesterday. improved the nautical mile by a knot, which didn't help, I need another knot or 2). Improved the distance 10km, and moved up 1. I was hoping for the 50km, but the wind really kicked in and I was buggered and in survival mode, so went with sensible option and left it...

    What makes you feel old?

OK, here's the kicker. I remember watching Rose Marie with my Mum https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0028207/ I remember the song, but not the plot, probably because Mum was always singing it, wouldn't be surprised if we also had the 78 for the wind up gramaphone.

    What makes you feel old?

I'm not old, but this body is, along with it's brain. That's the problem, you go to do something you've always done, and the body can't cope. And the people at work telling you, you're too old to get up a ladder or climb on the roof. But what really drives it home, is when you try to sail...
  17. decrep

Do you wish you lived in an earlier time?

I have a different perspective. I'm naturally a trial and error DIY innovator, I'm not good at maths, and have little design skills. Some of my mates have 3D printers, use their computers to design stuff and print it out. All totally beyond me. I'd like to go back to a time where I could be at...

    Next Car?

I think it depends, on the usage, for long distances with no regen advantage not so good, but short distances will be better than pure petrol, and if you only do long trips occasionally. you'll end up better in the end with no range anxiety
  19. decrep

    Next Car?

If done right it seems a hybrid is more economical that straight petrol because it has regen. And in some places like remote WA where it's hundred of km between anywhere, range anxiety in a BEV is very real. I agree it doesn't make a lot of sense where there's public charges everywhere.

    MG4 first year service cost

Had my first service Tuesday, and that's after 2 years here, for $347.00
  21. decrep

Jan was rubbish month for solar

I suspect we have more Govt control, there'd be political fallout. WA has often done things differently, we had a local gas reserve many decades ago, that was condemned by the Eastern States at the time.

Jan was rubbish month for solar

Of course, makes sense. No very little battery goes into the EV, that only happens when we need to do a calibration charge twice a year and run out of solar. 1.5MWh and 1.4MWH are getting close, can anybody do any better?
  27. decrep

    Joke thread

Wouldn't be surprised if somebody' trying to, we have a great range of climates here, if cocoa beans need tropical we have plenty of that.

Yep, 10kWh battery 5kW export limit. But isn't this just how much solar we get? Not what happens to it.

OK it's a challenge, have a guess, closest wins, only bragging rights for a prize. I guess it's fair to give something to go by. We have a 9.x kW array. but only a 5kW inverter.

Did you buy your EV to Save The Planet?

Clouds are definitely a blanket! clear nights are much colder than cloudy nights. However, clouds also reflect the suns rays back into space, so you get cooler days. I don't know what the net effect is. I have a feeling humidity level, (water vapor in the air with out cloud formation) has little...

Did you buy your EV to Save The Planet?

Yep, easy to do, must admit I feel a bit guilty about our overseas trip, but that's no reason not to buy an EV. It does sound a bit hypocritical, but it's an apple and orange thing, buying an EV, (if you can afford it, is no hardship, but missing out on a bucket list holiday is something else...

    Keeping fit losing weight

The thing with the 5 - 2, it puts the body into a different mode, it uses, the bad stuff previously stored, just cutting down food intake generally doesn't do that.

    Keeping fit losing weight

Best I achieved, about 10 years ago, was going to the 5 - 2 diet, semi fasting 2 days a week, after a month I'd gone from 75kg to 62kg. felt terrific, heaps of energy. But been slack with the diet lately and not as much exercise, gone back up over 70kg. Not a lot of energy anymore, but that...

I was waiting for the double declutch at some corners, change down about 3 gears, didn't happen when I was watching, got bored and turned off. I think me 2l 1974 Alfa GTV sounded nicer, certainly louder.

    Parasitic drain on 12V battery

I have heard, that when parts are in very short supply, the service people may sometimes swap the good part out from a new customer and put into one that's been waiting for a while. With any luck they can continue doing this for a while, and keep charging for a new part that only gets used...

Have MG sorted out the MG4 yet?

The beauty of the 4, it's so versatile, you can drive it smoooth and slow, or fast and furious. It does either mode very well. Whatever you do experiment with OPD, you just may fall in love with it like I did

Have MG sorted out the MG4 yet?

I took the 4 for a drive today to test a couple new GPSs, found a few excuses to stay on the road a bit longer, just love driving this car.

    Road tripping in the MG4

I guess I'm just a control freak, but I have a lot of trouble being comfortable with anything that wants to take over from me. Hate ACC hate LKA, hate Windows, hate Macs, hate commercials, I'm sure the list goes on. I'd probably be an anarchist, but there's too many problems with that.

Poll: Why did you go EV?

I've been trying to lower our carbon footprint for a long time but a BEV was financially out of our reach, until the MG4 came along. Now we are fully solar with house battery. I'm getting closer. As a HUGE bonus, It's fantastic to drive, wife loves it (really her car). Financial considerations...

    Corroded (rear) discs

Thanks PeteC, that's cleared that up, I'll give it a try myself later. I guess there's an optimum level of power and braking that does a good clean without stressing anything. I'm guessing it would be safe to keep power under 10???????
  61. decrep

Are you happy with your MG4?

Had a nice phone call with Melville MG. Michelle assures me they can do the LKA software fix under warranty. Just have to drive to Perth in rush hour, that won't be pleasant!

Are you happy with your MG4?

Some of us like to be able to drive like that, without messing about with the screen to turn LKA off

Woops!!!! Silly old fart time, @ReintjeWA has put me wise, there's more than the John Huges dealers around, I'll rung around Monday, I'm more than prepared to go somewhere more profesional. Back tomorrow with results.
