Welcome to the forum. As has been mentioned elsewhere, unlock the car, open the tailgate then force it open manually to its maximum, press and hold the close button on the tailgate for 3 seconds until it beeps.

As @Rei has said. Given the age of your Pod Point I'd change it. It is possible to change the cable and plug but the regulations have changed and it might be difficult to get an electrician to sign it off.

What is interesting is others have had a similar problem with your VDL Charger from Amazon and after contacting the seller they have had a replacement sent out.
