    What makes you feel old?

Recently realising that it was now more than 50 years ago that I queued up outside Virgin Records in Corporation Street, Birmingham, to get The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway on it's release day in November 1974. I recall when buses had drivers and it was conductors that issued tickets from a...

    MGS6 suggested improvements

Yes, and mode. Resets to Normal and regen 1. You also have to set mode first (at least on the star buttons) otherwise what you set in regen reverts to 1 when you then set mode.

    MGS6 suggested improvements

I've not explored it yet (cos I won't let anyone else drive it!), but I thought the MG iSMART app allows you to create, save, and access preferences for multiple drivers.

Things I have learned about the S6 today.

Use the thumb wheel just to the right (left non-UK). It's ostensibly for different load situations, but within reason you can use it to lengthen the beam reach. But be prepared to be flashed if you've set it too high. EDIT: Given the concern about LED headlights glare, perhaps MG are...

Not as such. Outside temperature shows at top left to right of time on Home Screen

It should be adjacent to the equalisation settings. My car is valet parked a mile or so away from me at the moment otherwise I would pop out a take a couple of photos. Google (Reddit) suggests the should be no differences between the European and UK Trophy versions.

Things I have learned about the S6 today.

Yes. Appreciate that. That's why I was 'forced' to wash it. I've got some stuff specifically for that in the Supagard pack, and some stuff for the alloys... which I might use on the Disco 3!

    MG S5 Apple Carplay/UI freezing

Not having been out in my pride and joy since Thursday I'm not sure whether I was affected. However, 4G reception where I am is extremely patchy and so I might have gotten away with it.

Things I have learned about the S6 today.

Funnily enough I just did mine an hour ago in prep for it's journey to Brighton and London over half-term week from tomorrow. But I did mine the old-fashioned way, with a sponge and the Supagard shampoo. The pesky birds roosting in the oak tree have been using my S6 for target practice! If it...

    MG S5 Apple Carplay/UI freezing

There seems to be conflicting info around on this. And there was some sort of news I remember reading on here somewhere (Nov I think) about OTA updates beginning in the new year for the S5 EDIT: Actually, that news may not have been for the S5.

    MG S5 Apple Carplay/UI freezing

This sounds similar to issues on Windows 9/10 PCs when Adobe, Office, and other apps were updating and they grabbed all system resources even though they are supposedly updating in the background. In such cases, you often had to wait minutes before a key press in Word would translate to the...

Did you buy your EV to Save The Planet?

Yes. My neighbour has had one for about 3 years now. He lent it me for a drive down our shared private road when the MG5 got written off. Might almost have got a 2nd hand one if the MGS5/S6 deals hadn't been so tempting.

Did you buy your EV to Save The Planet?

Since its launch in mid 2020 to Dec 2025, VW UK have sold 51,470 ID.3s. They sold 9,097 in 2025. There doesn't seem to be an equivalent link to MG UK sales figures breakdown by model (at least w/o paying the SMMT for access maybe).

    S6 Boot Floor height

Just a minor update. Using a better tape measure (yesterday's had a limited length!), and wearing my specs(!), the width is actually 39.5 inches/100.3 cm. Still doesn't make it to your HS PHEV measured width though.

MGS6 Dual Motor - real world range

Yes. Pleasantly surprised, as I do give it a bit of 'right foot' at times. About a degree warmer on afternoon pick up (same route and settings) and I got a smidgen more
  23. PeterHR2

    S6 Boot Floor height

39 in/99 cm give or take 2 or 3 mm

MGS6 Dual Motor - real world range

Single motor! I noted on the college round trip this morning (7–8°C) I was getting 3.2 mi/kWh (regen = 2 (mostly!); comfort).
  25. PeterHR2

    S6 Boot Floor height

Oh! And there are two (at least) flanged nuts holding that polystyrene block with the wheel stuff in. I might have a gander under it when the weather improves.
  26. PeterHR2

Does anyone know how the MGS6 boot/tailgate kick motion actually works?

Just enabled mine in settings and worked first time with just a wave of the foot mid right of the boot. Didn't have to turn 45° either. Just a sideways motion. Oh, and my car's rear end is a tad muddy.
  27. PeterHR2

    S6 Boot Floor height

Yes. And while we are on the boot... there is no way you will get a spacesaver (certainly in the 18-20 inch wheel size range) in there. But I 'knew' that.

Things not to like on the MGS6

I've not set the boot to open with a wave of the foot yet. Will try it in the next day or two. I wish it didn't have privacy glass in the rear. Looks good, but it affects visibility when reversing... and I'd rather look over my shoulder when reversing on unlit country lanes.

    Owners

Ditto type 2. Luckily I kept the MG5's granny charger. You also get locking wheel nuts (not fitted) if you wish to use them.

Did you buy your EV to Save The Planet?

The last time I flew was in September 2002 (to the USA, for a train ride from Chicago to Denver). Flying is now relatively greener, though there is more of it! And it will get greener. But whether green enough is currently debatable. I'm not in favour of stopping people flying. Give everyone an...

Intelligent Drive screen not showing surrounding vehicles

Just resurrected a search I did last week, and this is the AI Google info I got: Yes, other road vehicles are sensed and displayed in the digital instrument cluster when driving in "intelligent drive mode" (often referred to as Intelligent Cruise Assist or MG Pilot) in the MG S6 EV. Cluster...

Intelligent Drive screen not showing surrounding vehicles

I thought that was the case, having read various things about it. But having watched ACC and ICA in use in an MG3 video (which I presume will not differ too much in the S6) I'm now not so sure as I thought I was.
  34. PeterHR2

Intelligent Drive screen not showing surrounding vehicles

I've only had it in ACC mode, and vehicle in front is represented as expected. Not tried ICA mode (and this has to be active to see other road vehicles in the cluster's intelligent drive mode screen/tile) to see whether other vehicles show up. No point in having it on with most of the driving I...

Things not to like on the MGS6

The ambient temperature range listed for the MGS6 is –15°C to +45°C. Edit: I should add, it will operate outside those ranges, at least for short periods, but things like efficiency and degradation will take a hit.
  36. PeterHR2

Things not to like on the MGS6

Might be down to time of day/night being charged. Those were daytime temperatures I quoted I realised afterwards, and I charged it overnight. Night-time was a bit cooler. And I live 700 ft asl, so you can knock another degree or so off. Perhaps nearer 3–4°C when charged, and not using battery...
  37. PeterHR2

Things not to like on the MGS6

I'd add the following to the reply from @Giller. Though keeping charge state between 20% and 80% for the NMC battery is probably the best daily practice, charging to 90% for daily use really shouldn't cause an issue. Even 100% is 'safe' if you are using it immediately. But keeping an NMC...

Did you buy your EV to Save The Planet?

I admit to sometimes having a sense of guilty self-satisfaction at traffic lights when sat alongside a 'boy'-racer revving his ICE looking to make a quick getaway. Then, as the lights turn green, my whisper-quiet instant torque kicks in and I accelerate effortlessly to the speed limit... to be...

Things not to like on the MGS6

Well the MGS6 has 20-in wheels, and the Subaru (UK spec anyway) can be an inch or two less. So the MG will be higher to sill height. But the Subaru is taller, so guess more headroom in its cabin. But I'm over 6ft (>1.8m) and there's ample headroom in the MGS6 for me front and back. Think there's...

Things not to like on the MGS6

Just ...wow! I'd just not consider buying a car at those prices. And the COE has to be renewed! A Certificate of Entitlement (COE) is a mandatory document in Singapore that grants the right to own and use a vehicle for 10 years. Implemented to manage traffic congestion, it is part of the...

Things not to like on the MGS6

My only real gripe so far about the MGS6, which I've had for a week now (and done about 450 miles), is that the reversing light has all the illuminating power of a recently extinguished candle. It's fine in reasonably well-lit surroundings, when you might not really need it; but at night, in...

Did you buy your EV to Save The Planet?

I'd still be driving my MG5 if some 'person' hadn't drove into me on the wrong side of the road and wrote it off. I could forgive it the front wheel spin.

Things I have learned about the S6 today.

Ah! That's interesting. I'd moved the positioning forward, roughly level with my ears. The reasoning being the kids don't like Radio 4 or Classic FM... and they've always got their headphones on/in anyway the moment they get in the car. I'll try that. I do appreciate in normal set-ups that it...

Did you buy your EV to Save The Planet?

Well, the licence fee was never going to stay low/£0 as EV take-up increased. But about the congestion charge: that only applies to central London doesn't it? ICEs still have to pay the ULEZ fee on top don't they? And EVs don't have to pay the ULEZ fee at all. Since the congestion charge is a...

Did you buy your EV to Save The Planet?

An emphatic yes. Although, on an individual level, my (and anyone else's) choice to do so has a negligible impact on annual global GHG emissions, that small effect is measurable and scales with take up and time. We also invested in solar panels to utilise as much renewable energy as possible...

    Insurance for Dual Motor

They consider you to be more organised/not in a rush. Basically, anyone planning ahead is statistically less likely to make a claim than someone who waits until the last minute to secure coverage. The fact I'd been looking for a purchase for over 3 months doesn't seem to factor in. It's just...
