Why am I wavering ? Need to make a decision

Here are my personal thoughts about your dilemma.
As already been said these 2 cars are targeting different needs. The Ioniq 5 is a family car, very good for long journeys with wife and kids.
The MG4 is smaller and despite that it doesn't lacks of room, traveling with kids & luggage's could be more challenging with it.
MG4 is new and as every new car/model has some bugs at his early days. Nevertheless the manufacturer is resolving the issues, because they of course want to continue increasing the sales.

Even long time established manufacturers have issues with new models. Look at the id3 and the software problems they had when it arrived to market.

Regarding the Ioniq 5, I already drove a Hyundai EV for close to 90k km (about 55,9k miles) without any issue and I know they are reliable.
I hesitated in the past about Ioniq 5, but as its suspension is too soft for me, I finally didn't took it.

When I tested the MG4, I was surprised by the way it drives and the fun that we can have with it on the road.
This is only my personal opinion of course: even without taking into account the price difference, my choice would definitely go to MG4 and if there is still any early time issue, I know that the warranty is there for that and my dealer will provide me the needed support to solve it.

Like I said at the start I'd go with the 4 as it will actually be your car.
The fact you now say your other car is a VW Touareg makes that a definite vote for the 4, you have one big lump of a car to get the family about, do you really need 2. The 4 is a family hatch perfect for getting about towns, nice and nimble easy for parking up etc. Then you still have the big car if you need it.

I had a Merc C class estate. The wife has a Touareg 3 litre V6 which is massive.
Honestly, these are both very good quality, large high end cars and are both hard acts to follow from these legacy manufactures.
I know your family situation / demands have changed, but don't be tempted to aim your sites too low, or you could be find yourself saying :- "Oh ...... That's a shame, my old Merc / VW could do this or that and the new car can NOT ?.
You have to be willing to accept some compromise or you will feel yourself coming up a little bit sure on your expectations TBH.

Hi, mattjessop
you said in your first post that you have no car now and are sharing your wife’s so that’s one issue that might become a problem at some point if it goes on.

The MG you can have in two weeks the Hyundai might just might come in in May but there’s no guarantee that it will.

You mention that the lease on the Hyundai would have an impact on you pension at work so what’s more important a car for a few years or your pension for many years

As others have said here you can not compare the two cars side by side.
Me I would go MG, it’s yours paid for and I would think easier to sell on when you decide to because of the price point, and the actual size there is aways somebody wanting a small hatchback type vehicle for there wife or kids when they need a first car.

And when you come to retirement your extra pension will provide you a better life and maybe the chance of something much better who knows. Thinking about today is fine, but you will have many more tomorrow’s and the extra pension could make a big difference, only you can decide.
Les.

Can Leaseplan not get you a car from one of the Ionic dealers. My brother had a 77kw Ionic 5 Premium on offer since last Feb and was given Feb 23 as delivery time but a couple of weeks ago was now told May 23 like you.

I looked on Autotrader for him and found quite a few new cars from stock so he cancelled and got an I5 from Johnsons Coventry with a £5k discount and is getting car 3rd March on a 23 plate.

He is buying rather than leasing but there a cars around brand new so can they not source one for you.

Its a good idea but they have been spectacularly unhelpful all the way through this process.

Its really hard to answer that.
I test drove the Ioniq5 for 15 mins and pretty much ordered off the back of that. Its been 9 months since I sat in one.
I have done far more research on the MG4 - it ticks all the same boxes.
I think part of the issue is I am about to drop £33K on an MG.

At the end of the day what I'm getting from your scenario both options cost about the same in terms of the money you outlay over time but the final outcome is different afterwards.

You keep the MG4 but would have to send the IONIQ5 back. This seems like a no brainer to me. Despite the issues you will own the MG4 outright and use it as a trade in or sell it to recoup some cost later on whereas the IONIQ5 (yes might be a nice car) but you don't own a share in it and gives you no equitable value.

In this case I'd go MG4 all the way as it provides you with more options in future too plus you "fingers crossed" get it sooner.

Correct me if I'm wrong with my understanding?

This was exactly my final thought process.
