I havent seen this posted elsewhere but ive been informed that new MG4's will have the following spec change by dealers here in Ireland.

"MY23" MG4 spec changes;
Excite/Exclusive
Addition of rear wiper
Addition of rear middle headrest
Addition of rear grab handles

Exclusive Only
18" Alloys with new Aero Cover design (upgrade from 17" and whilst subject to final confirmation, homologation tests have shown the same EV range up until now) .
Two tone roof is no longer available.

While I am very happy with my MG4 and am glad I have it now and not still waiting for it, it's very disappointing to see a spec change, ~6 months from launch for things that should largely have been part of the car in the first place. Mid-gen refresh sure but they are basically saying they cheaped out on the earlier adopters.

Having said that, I think this coincides with the €2k price increase in Ireland. So ultimately people are paying for this but hardly a €2k cost to add these!

I think the 18" wheels are going to give a harder ride, I quite like the 17" ones we have now. All the other stuff doesn't bother me at all, I have lived without a rear wiper for the past (almost) 4 years, I rarely have 5 people in the car and the ones I do carry don't seem to mind there are no grab handles.

Agreed, and these are just for the new models that should be arriving here in the late summer months.
Dealers are however charging that extra 2k to customers already for the older models ariving this/next month.

Bad move charging more, the 2nd hand market for EVs makes comparisons with other more capable makes frighteningly too close.

The middle rear headrest should have been there from the beginning. I'm surprised that it wasn't mentioned in detail in the safety tests. That's the only one that I would want as the rear wiper doesn't sound like a requirement.

I've seen some reviews with customers experiencing aquaplaning issues especially on wet Irish/British roads.
Not sure if 18" wheels will help mitigate this.

Quite so. Going to 18" wheels would probably result in lower profile tyres and so you are right about the harder ride. I am perfectly happy with the car as it is. Let's not turn it into a camel.

If the new centre headrest is like the two I already have, there'll be no point in a rear wash/wipe, because I wouldn't be able to see out of the back anyway!
Yes. The new middle headrest will obstruct the view to the exact space the new wiper will wipe.

According to MG's webpage in Germany the prices are rising considerably: EUR 3000+ for the Standard (=SE) and Comfort (=SE LR) model, EUR 4000+ for the Luxury (=Trophy) model.

All vehicles will get a rear wiper, grab handles and a third (middle) headrest in the back.

The Standard model will get heated seats and steering wheel and the same 17" rims as the Luxury model.

The Comfort model will get a heat pump (the Luxury model was the only one with a heat pump so far).

The only change with the Luxury model are 18" rims with two-tone aero covers.

I have included a picture from the configurator webpage of the new 18" rims which are certainly well worth the EUR 4000 surcharge. 😉

I would remove the middle headrest for visibility. The rear wiper will be pretty useless as it will sweep a tiny area and I don't miss having a rear wiper on mine.

Rear grab handles are a good addition, my elderly parents struggle to get in and out of the back without one.

I don't care about the wheels, 18 inch will look a bit better and ride a bit worse. Any problems with aquaplaning / wheelspin will be down to the tyres not the wheels, will be interesting to see if MG have changed their tyre supplier.

Yes, middle headrest is just going to be in the way so would probably remove that.
Rear wiper doesn't really seem needed.
Grab handles would be good though.

18in alloys - you can just buy some to replace the 17in if you're that bothered, for considerably cheaper than the price increases.

Tyres on the existing model are cheap and not great, although perfectly within legal requirements.
Two-tone roof is a matter of taste. I'd imagine the majority of customers don't care either way.

I'd like to see them (publicly) addressing some of the significant issues highlighted on this forum before I dip a toe in the MG4 pool.

I quite agree. I removed the two headrests and store them in the back or leave them home if I think I'm not going to have adult passengers.

Rear wiper simply isn't needed from my experience, even on motorway journeys in the rain the window stays clear. And if this is how it looks then all the wiper does is decrease visibility, although seems like the added headrest will do that anyway.

Someone mentioned Bridgestone, perhaps zoomed in on a photo.
They're standard on my born and are decent enough.
Vision via the rear view mirror is unnecessary to me, I manage fine with wing mirrors (as do lorry and van drivers)
Just last week someone gave launch drawings/photos of a new car completely devoid of a back window, can’t recall who.
Wouldn’t bother me.

Does that (Polestar 4) replace the rear view mirror with a camera/screen (in the same location as a RV mirror)?
