I was loving mine (except for losing the Dab radio stations) until this cold weather. The 50% loss in range when I put the heater on is ridiculous. I expected to lose maybe 25-30% like I did with the ZS but 50% is seriously poor, I even manage to lose 75% range if I use the pre heat as well. It's got me considering getting rid and swapping it for something else next Autumn, something more efficient.
😟

Are you sure that's not just a software glitch of some description?

Just for example, I left home today with
24 miles left on the gom and I wanted to do 17miles.
95% of trip was 70mph.

Heater and aircon on, arrived with 10 miles of range left. (Normal mode)

Mine always drops a bit, but nothing to the extent of what your car is showing m8 🤔

Kithmo, there has got to be something wrong with your car. I believe the LFP battery (mine) loses more range in the cold than the NMC (yours) does. However, the worst I have seen on the GOM at 100% no matter how I have been driving is a 33% loss of range. (145 miles compared to the quoted 218 miles, and I have to be driving like Miss Daisy in a heatwave to get 218 miles.)

Just recently, in a very cold spell, I was doing repeated very short journeys (3 miles) at -5C, pre-heating the car every time. After about a week of that I was down to about 36% battery and when I worked out the range pro-rata it was equivalent to 114 miles at 100%. STILL not a 50% decrease from the ideal quoted range.

If I turn the heater on under normal circumstances, say it has got colder in the evening on an autumn day, the GOM will reduce by 10% of whatever it was reading before. I take that to be nominal, but in reality it's not that far out. I run the heater ALL THE TIME in winter, usually at maximum to start with.

I'm currently trying to get the damn car down below 10% to do a full slow charge later this week, and it seems to be taking forever. Despite heating, pre-heating, you name it.

Remember, this is with the LFP battery, notoriously less tolerant of cold than the NMC.

It may just be a calibration problem, or there may be something fundamentally wrong with your car, but either way you need to get this looked at. It is not normal. It is not something you need to or should put up with.

A surprisingly difficult question to answer, unless you have experience with a similar car in the same sector and/or believe all the reviews you have no actual comparisons. All new cars are going to have foibles of varying levels and new owner criticisms, its how much you are prepared to compromise . Mine has one or two of the common niggles and I'm crossing my fingers none of the many reported faults appear in the near future. I have only returned to the dealer for a very minor fault and they were great, so I have not tested out the famous MG customer service reputation in anger. So gripping the wooden arm of the chair I have to say this is the best car I have ever owned , it does have compromises but I was aware of most of them when I bought it.

People often come to a forum for information (sometimes before purchasing) but also to get help with issues they have. This can sometimes give the impression that there are lots of problems when, in fact, happy owners, just get on and enjoy their cars without feeling any need to discuss them. Which leaves a disproportionately large proportion of threads posted here being about problems. So let's ask the question.

Are you enjoying your MG4?
I've just answered "No" to the question because my MG4's not been charging on AC chargers since mid December - rapid chargers only
Car's been in the garage since 8/1, had 4 software updates and they're now saying it's the charger port . The new one won't arrive until 8/2.
Part of the frustration is with MG Cars UK - they insist all warranty work must be authorised by them and sometimes it takes them 48 hours to do so, so 50% of the reason I don't have a car is MG making its mind up
To be fair, they have hired me a MG HS until my cars ready...... the Bluetooth socket doesn't work, so I can't use Google maps..... honestly, it would be funny (except it's not)

As others have said apart from the odd software glitch I'm happy with the car.

As it hasn't been near a garage since I got the car in March last year I await with interest to see what the software updates do after I get it back from its first service

How long are your journeys where you have noticed a 50% drop in range?
What normally happens is that the predicted range is based on the current energy usage. So it’s assuming that your heater will continue to blast away getting the cabin temp up. Whereas once it’s hit temperature, it dials back to a minimum to maintain it and the predicted range then moves back up.
You wouldn’t notice this on short journeys because the car doesn’t have chance to get to the target temp before you arrive.
No EV will have a permanent drop of 50% range in the cold. Only while it’s heating the cabin up.

Google translate of the above post.

We are satisfied with our MG4 luxury 64. That's what it is called in Belgium. I had heard about vibrations, touch screen operation, poor heating and the like. I must say that we are not experiencing any problems with these for the time being. We only find the lane assistance very irritating. For the rest we are satisfied.

Here strikes DOOM @Ian Key 🤣🤣
I have recently discovered my rear nearside passenger window doesn't work and my rear camera is 99% of the time a blue screen.

I've damn near cured the vibes myself so really have no reason to let MG anywhere near it. (Not until I absolutely have to)

I've read too many horror stories on here how going into service at MG makes the car worse.
Some might say "Is that possible"?🤣

But I like my car just the way it is at the moment.

I've never trusted a camera when reversing!
I'm OldeSchool and like to use something called "eyes"
I will rarely carry a passenger and wouldn't let them have a window open anyway!
The only thing I would like is an easy OFF LKA, but am now so adept at switching it off, I barely notice I'm doing it.👍

Mine was delivered with this problem and I suspect someone didn't clip a connector together securely in the factory as it was cured by the dealer just removing the door card and checking the connection.

Very short journeys 2.5 miles each way. I saw less than 2 mi/kWh compared to over 4 in Summer.
I even managed to lose almost 70% in the last two weeks by preheating and using the heater 1.2 mi/kWh calculated. Charged to 100%, did 67 miles, charged again and it used 55.5kWh factor in 10% losses in charging that's still 1.3 mi/kWh.
My 2020 ZS was never like this, it never went below 2.7 mi/kWh with the heater on.

Probably different ways that the range is predicted. In the end, while seeing the range drop when you need it could be alarming, it won't take long before you get used to seeing how your car predicts the range and you have a better idea of what the real world range is.

That's shocking. I had the same from VW when my engine failed at only 35K miles and still under warranty. Their excuse was that since I hadn't had the car serviced by a VW dealer then they weren't going to play nice. But since you haven't been playing away, I can't see any justification.

Just heard from MG. CCU needs to be replaced. courtesy car refused by MG and Dealership,
Had infinetly better service from local garage iwith previous cars,

That's disgraceful. MG have built a great car in the 4 let down by a terrible attitude from MG UK and many of the dealers. I'm unlikely to buy an MG again, not because of the car, but because of the lack of support and poor attitude.

Yes!! Definitely.

I am happy other than the banging noise that you get when turning onto inclined driveways. Took it to the dealer and they inspected and couldn't figure out what was wrong.

Apparently lots of MG4 owners have this problem in Australia. Its a hollow bang/thud noise from the back of the car.

Oh yeah and the emergency braking event that happened when turning right. We have many intersections where you can turn right after giving way to straight going traffic and it gets confused into thinking you are going to crash into the guy coming the other way also turning right.

I wonder if UK cars have these issues also.
