Question,

I’m driving up to Scotland soon, does the cars Navigation route charging stops along the way ?

I’m aware of ABRP and linking it up with an OBD dongle to get live data, however just wondering if the car does this ?

Thanks

I’ve played with the Nav settings and I can’t find anyway for the car to route charging stops

Nothing similar to how Tesla does it with their Superchargers. I'm doing a 600 mile trip on Saturday and have signed up to ABRP premium with the link from Bjorn Nyland for a month free trial. Also make sure you have the Tesla app so you can see real-time availability and location of the open to all SCs.

Are you using an OBD to get real time data ?

I prefer to use Android Auto with Google maps as I believe it's better for up-to-date traffic information. I plan in advance using the Electroverse app together with Tesla if there are any suitable chargers near my route.
It's not as convenient as ABRP but it's fine for the occasional journey.

I’m just surprised that a navigation system in an EV doesn't just route taking chargers into account.

No OBD, hoping the premium version trial has that info and link with thru Android Auto (in my situation). Hopefully 2 charges each way. Tesla Banbury, Tesla Trentham and a couple of other companies to ensure no motorway dramas.

You need an OBD to get live data but it’s not essential

Thanks for the info. Hadn't really looked into this as didn't want to pay premium (or buy an OBD) as most of the time I'm within Sussex and lucky enough to charge at home.

Personally I much prefer using Apple Play and Google maps for navigation; plus WattsUp for working out suitable charging stops

I wish Electroverse showed the Sainsbury’s smart charge network in their maps. I’ve reported it missing in their beta hoping they would add those but they haven’t yet 😭

Charge Places Scotland have 2600 chargers all over Scotland. A registration card is £10, The current cost per Kw is from 25p. Depending on how many kw's you estimate, it might be a good option for you.

i have been looking at Electorverse for an intended drive across Europe. I gives route planning, suggested charging points with arrival and departure %'s and time required to charge. I am with Octopus and it will debit my electricity bill for the charges, I don't know if this is available to non-Octopus customers

I found a bit of pre planning works wonders for peace of mind. I put all fast chargers on or close to my route into Google Maps and saved them as Favourites so that I can use Apple Car Play to navigate to any of them. I generally chose ultrafast charger sites with more than just one charger. Have a look at my trip here:

It was £12 when I got mine last April.

After spending six months in Scotland I highly recommend charge place Scotland - they cover all different chargers and have the best call centre to reset a charger while you are standing in front of it.

Broxden Park and Ride, where the M9 meets the M90 at Perth has 15 "Charge Place Scotland" charge points plus Tesla. Pretty good stopping off point when heading to or from the Highlands, Aberdeen and all points north.. Toilets, Macdonald's, Harvester restaurant all yards away.

Hi Pecker,
There was occasion when I dropped below 20% and I was being informed by her 'ladyship' to "charge soon", the sat nav, which was I was using, actually showed me where the nearest charge stations were. I wasn't far from home so ignored it, but it was interesting that it did so.
Also if you use the ismart app and search 'charge stations', it will bring up all the charge points near to your location. The 'EV Station' button doesn't work on my app as it keeps telling me the nearest is Muang Hak1, 5870.6 miles away in Thailand😁
I agree with Rolfe, 'ChargeplaceScotland' app is really good and if you have problems, the helpline is very responsive and can more often than not, sort your problem out. Quite often the problems are 'host' related, by that I mean local councils, and is beyond CPS remit though they will report to the 'host' council of particular problems. Recently I noticed that the rapid charger in the car park at Moffat was showing red, I phoned CPS and they contacted Dumfries & Galloway council who got it fixed.
One holiday in Kinloch Rannoch, I forgot my CPS card after switching EV's. I phoned CPS and gave them my name, I couldn't remember the card number🙄, but they were able to switch the charger on remotely in KR for me. Can't fault them.
Enjoy your stay up here.🙂 Your doing the right thing by planning ahead👍
