One Pedal Driving

Have folks had OPD applied to their car after a software update or does it comes with newer models of the MG4? Mine's getting a service next week which I expect will include a software update so I'm curious whether this is likely to be included, or perhaps it's only available to Trophy models or XPower ones?

OPD is only available for the Phase 2 (MY23) cars - i.e. the ones with the rear wiper.

Allegedly the Phase 1 (MY22) cars aren't compatible with OPD, although I have my doubts about that as we can get pseudo-OPD using ACC - if the vehicle in front stops so do we, without us having to press the brake pedal.

Newer models have a rear wiper?? I'm so jealous.

And yes I agree if automatic cruise control can put your car to a stop why couldn't OPD be applied?

I'm guessing ACC works differenty (with ACC using the brakes more ?). Even DSG Golfs will come to a standstill using ACC but no chance of OPD on them !!.

OPD on Phase 1 cars may need to be implemented slightly differently (as Phase 2 cars may have slightly different hardware in some parts), so not adding it to Phase 1 cars is simply a conscious decision by MG to not invest any time in it.

MY22 cars also come to a crawl with regen breaking, and will come to a complete stop using front collision detection, so I'm sure it's possible to get them to come to a complete stop in a manner similar to OPD, but I doubt MG are bothered enough to actually go through the design and implementation of it for MY22cars.

That is ironic? Keep in mind that it is a very small wiper. It more or less wipes the area just behind the third headrest. Unless you take that one out you will not see much on an effect of it.
And there is no way to adjust wiping frequency....

I never said anything about it being ironic.

No speed adjustment would be better than no wiper and thus no speed at all. Also no central headrest in the back seat of my car so nothing to take out. That said, it's really mostly in heavy rain that it would be useful

That's something else that MY23 also added - a centre headrest in the rear. The irony being that the area of window swept by the new wiper was obscured by the new headrest. :)

Mine has OPD but it kept turning itself off. In the end I'm pretty happy with the max regen braking and using the actual brake right at the end. I like the control of the speed of deceleration over the car doing it.

Agreed - the "creep" (like a normal ICE automatic) was one of the first things I noted when test driving the MG4, and was one of the things I liked. :)
I fail to see any advantage with a car creeping. My i3 has one pedal driving and the Tesla that I've been driving recently has it even more so, brilliant, so easy.

So, to be pedantic, there is no such thing as one-pedal driving because there is always a brake pedal.
Frankly, thats a daft statement to make.

Given the state of the software I would not be confident to use such a capability.
Then the answer is simple, dont use it, leave the option off.

And, if you have to switch it on every time then, neither are MG.
Really? are you sure?

I assume it does not earn MG NCAP points.
Well lets think about this, you put your foot on the accelerator and the car moves off, the more you press down the faster it goes. Removing the pressure from the accelerator the car slowls down, the more you remove the pressure it slows down quicker, if you take your foot of completely it comes to a complete stop as opposed to continuing at walking pace with no feet on any pedals. Now I dont know what you have in mind about how one pedal driving could have a negative effect on NCAP but to me a car that comes to a complete stop is a better proposition from a safety perspective.

Newbie here ( MG 4 -EU trim Luxury - I think its the Trophy LR model in UK) since March and I'm always using the OPD... I can only complain for 2 things :
  • the setting is OFF every time you turn on the car - its not saved so you need to activate it ( I joke its a Politburo setting - as an individual I have nothing to say;):):)...
  • The second more Annoying and UNSAFE ---> the setting on(OPD) if you take out the foot from the accelerator pedal - the BRAKE lights dont seem to switch ON to the CARS behind !!!! I've seen some cars approaching TOO close to me - so I normally take the foot out and apply a subtle brake pedal just to light back to the cars behind !!!

I thought that all regen braking at 7% or more activated the brake lights?

I get exactly the same regen value with OPD and without it so the only way OPD slows the car more rapidly is by applying some brake pressure and it will bring it to a complete stop.
In my non-OPD SE SR (MY22 Excite 51 for you guys) I get the following max. regen levels without touching the brake pedal:

3 = 20%
2 = 13% (or 12% - I can't remember)
1 = 5%
A = typically like regen 2, but it depends on what other vehicles are around

If I press the brake pedal then I can get a max. regen of 25%.

I've got the setting on High (not Adaptive!) and I can get regen From 1% to 25% just by taking the foot out gently from the accelerator (1% to 10 %) or more if i take the foot out completely (it maxes at 25%).
