MG4 LR 2024 issues.

Not wanting to state the obvious but.
1. ensure you are using the left usb plug not the one on the right or rear of the car
2. The compatibility is not all down to the car but the versions of the MG's AA and also the phones AA version. I would try to eliminate some variables by using different cables and also different (newer phones) or ensure that the version of AA is current on your phone
3. There are I believe MG firmware updates also available that remediates some of the AA issues so ensure they have been applied by your dealer. If it helps, I have zero issues connecting my Samsung A52 phone to my MG LR either by USB cable or via the wireless adapter I have plugged into the left hand USB port. Day 1 it worked and has always worked without an issue.

Welcome to the MG4!
I have a 2023 Trophy that’s just over a year old. I have had similar problems since the week that it was purchased. It has been back to the dealership 6 times. It has had every possible software update and a new infotainment screen fitted. Problems persist.
The most alarming issue is that on 2 occasions the car has done a totally unprovoked emergency stop, which was very alarming!
The dealership (Paul Rigby MG at Redditch) have been useless. MG UK have refused to take it back, even though I put in writing that I rejected the car if they could not fix it within the 6 month period.
It’s a well styled car which drives well most of the time, but the infotainment system and Apple CarPlay integration are totally rubbish.
I have now decided to sell the car and lose around £13k. Depreciation has been catastrophic, but the car is just not fit for purpose and has to go!
I have sent scores of emails and made dozens of calls to the dealer, to MG UK, including to the UK Aftersales Director, but they have all lost interest.
Good luck to the rest of you MG4 owners. Buying the Trophy was a very big mistake.
I have a 24 Trophy LR, and I'm feeling the same. there are just too many issues to have to compromise on for the next 3 years. It is going into the dealer later this month, so I'm hoping they can 'scrap' the car, so I don't have to pay a release fee, which, as I have it on lease through work, and though I've only had it a month, the leasing company want 6x monthly payments to hand it back! over £3k. Should have got the Tesla!!

wow sounds like a very unlucky run for you two. Albeit not in the UK, I have the MG4 LR and couldn't be happier. It has what I would call minor software issues and from what I hear and see from pretty much every other owner of non MG4's electric or non electric, the software issues in terms of the newer safety systems incl LKA, phantom braking etc is common across pretty much all other brands as well. Sorry to tell you but phantom braking exists on Teslas as well. So unless you disable these features or buy an older car without the features I suspect you will be in the same position in terms of potential hit or miss as you are relying on software, camera and radar technology that is at the mercy of being buggy, not correctly calibrated etc. Remember these new sensors feed info to software and software then determines a course of action based on the data it is fed. Bad data from misaligned or dirty sensors (Camera lens etc) will mean the software makes bad decisions... I have been driving someone else's non EV for the last 3 days and I can tell you I couldn't wait to get back into my MG4!!! The MG4 is so quiet, smooth and it accelerates better. There is no auto transmission lag to cause slow acceleration or gear hunting and as I had to put petrol in it I couldn't believe the cost which I had forgotten about since Sept last year and the 15,500kms in my MG4. $10 for just over 5 litres of unleaded petrol, what the hell!! In terms of apple car play and android auto you cannot 100% blame the MG4. Cables and Bluetooth version on the devices you connect have a large amount to play in this. Yep, Bluetooth is another software layer that is not controlled or owned by MG as is Android auto and apple car play... Good luck with whatever you choose to replace your MG4 and would be great to hear your journey on its replacement

Ah that is a shame, good luck with the sale and I'm guessing this will be your last post.

I have had experienced plus/minus same issues lake you. But my dealer fix it in two visits. The major problem was vibration and it was fixed by all 4 tires replacement by new one and front wheel
alignment adjustment by the dealer free of charge (Israel).

Thanks for your response and I am glad that your experience has been better.
I am an EV convert and also have had a Kia EV6 since July. This has performed faultlessly throughout. The screen is well thought through and works reliably. Many controls can be adjusted from dedicated buttons without having to go into menus. Apple CarPlay works every time without interfering with other functions. I have never had to contact the dealer. Emergency braking has operated a few times, but nothing alarming and always for an understandable reason. The EB has always been brief and braking ceased once the obstacle has been avoided.
MG just need to rework the MG4 control systems and get them right.

Just leased an MG4 LR 24 reg. The issues with the software are ridiculous. So far they are -
  • Bluetooth not pairing for more than 1 journey and then refusing to pair again.
  • Adaptive cruise control switches itself off.
  • Radio refusing to work at all (DAB & FM)
  • Satnav trying to go unusual routes despite being selected as fastest.
  • Apple CarPlay randomly losing connection despite being plugged in.
  • Range nowhere near what was advertised.
  • Noisey drive on motorway.
  • Vibrating any speed above 40mph..
  • Unresponsive touch screen.
  • Too many controls done through unresponsive screen so reluctant to do much whilst driving.

Anyone else experiencing these issues too or have I just got a diff car?
Seeing the reviews for MG customer service doesn’t fill me with confidence that these issues will be solved anytime soon.
I literally thought I was going mad!

I am having the same issues with my MG 4 SR SE
1. Apple CarPlay randomly losing connection despite being plugged in
2. Bluetooth not pairing for more than 1 journey and then refusing to pair again.
3. Adaptive cruise control switches itself off.
4. Unresponsive touch screen.

I have taken my lease car to the dealership multiple times and they said there’s nothing wrong. I have an iPhone 15 pro max. My phone is updated and I’m using an authentic iPhone charger and the issues still persist. They say there’s nothing to fix… I thought I was going crazy as these customer service is so poor and they literally gas light you anytime you say there’s an issues with the car

Try a decent quality braided cable as an alternative, the Apple ones don't always work for people. I use Anker cables.

The Bluetooth issues are partially fixed in the R46 Infotainment update. Not sure if R59 provides a complete fix. Upgrading the Infotainment version should improve responsiveness a bit.

If the garage won't address these issues under warranty, go to a different dealership.

I am guessing that you have seen my post “Goodbye MG4” from 1st May.
You seem to have even more issues than I did! MG customer service is indeed poor, as was the dealership I bought from.
In my post I mentioned contact details for the MG UK after sales director. It may be worth contacting him.
The other approach is to document the issues and inform the dealer that you reject the car unless they fix all of the issues promptly. Under Consumer law (UK) I believe that you have to do this within 6 months. Not sure how that works with a lease car though.
Good luck!

I’ve tried multiple cables, from the apple, to the braided to a converted charger and all sorts they all do the same thing

The AppleCare play works for a bit then cuts out
The Bluetooth works sometimes and the other times you have to delete your phone and re-add it and no one but me and the additional driver have our phones linked in so it’s not like lots and lots of phones are on there
It’s not always to do with the cable as well
But the cable for the AppleCare play is weird and then the other port doesn’t charge your phone at all

Ok. Many people have had these issues improved with the right updates. I do urge you to find a better dealer who is proactive and wants to help you. You are clearly not getting good service.
