The Ultimate MG5 "Real World" Energy Consumption Thread

How's this for a 2021 MG5 Exclusive? Pic taken September 2023. Now, in Glasgow during winter/spring, it's more like 2 miles per kWh for short trips on a daily basis!

Pics of other cars you've had.🙂

My first Austin 7 My third car. 1936 Austin 7 Ruby The best car for driving! We did the most miles in this Vectra. 500 mile range!! Our first electric car - and possibly the most comfortable and a joy to drive (apart from the 60 mile range) Our current 2021 MG5 Exclusive The worst? An...

Normal tyre wear after 18k miles?

MG5 Exclusive first registered March 2021 In January 2024, I had to have 2 new front tyres at 20,000 miles and I bought 205/60R16 HANKOOK K117 96V XL from Kwik Kit, £247.96 including eco tyre disposal, fitting, etc. I'm told they're longer lasting. They are certainly quieter than those fitted by...

Changing the MG5 display back to celsius

The infotainment computer must be sent back to MG in Longbridge by an MG dealer, e.g. Arnold Clark. For my pre facelift MG5, it took 3 or 4 days before I got the car back. I could not find a user setting in the Chinese hidden menu.

    2021 MG5 Exclusive: 4 miles per kWh - YAY!

Hmm. I'm learning. Thanks. So the Nickel Manganese Cobalt battery in my car should be charged to 80% (as the manual suggests) with monthly 100% for cell balancing or in preparation for the occasional long journey. And aegisbattery.com suggests that NMC batteries are good for 1000 charges: at...

    2021 MG5 Exclusive: 4 miles per kWh - YAY!

Thank you. Interesting to know. According to EV-Database at MG MG5 EV Long Range, the battery in my long range 2021 MG5 SE iExclusive is Lithium-ion. Is SAIC/MG Motor using LFP now or in the future?

    2021 MG5 Exclusive: 4 miles per kWh - YAY!

This is a good question! I charge to 90% mainly due to the fact that there's no regen (braking effect) over about 95% charge. I note that the car handbook states recommends 80% with a monthly charge of 100% to "balance the cells", but since so many people (like the next post) maintain that...

    2021 MG5 Exclusive: 4 miles per kWh - YAY!

Interesting! The smaller battery in your SR compared to my LR must account for the better efficiency! Thanks for your post.

Wanted Anyone know of an MG5 forsale?

You're well placed in the Midlands to get one. I paid £26,500 for 2021 MG5 Exclusive with 11,000 miles and was unable to sell it a few months later. Autotrader has several from around £15k for a Cat C and not much wrong with it and £18,000 for a low mileage one. But check the insurance premium -...

    2021 MG5 Exclusive: 4 miles per kWh - YAY!

After a year from September 2022: A recent trip, Glasgow to Market Harborough to Wolverhampton (in that order) at a chilly 12 deg C and motorway speeds: I charge every 100 miles. 200 miles up the M6 from Wolverhampton in atrocious wet and windy weather, but warmer, including a charge just...

How do I jack up my 2021 MG5 SW EV (there's no jack)

Thanks to all about jacking up my 2021 MG5, rotating tyres and about the sun cracking tyre sidewalls. My rear tyres look new; the front ones are wearing so I'm rotating them. Our 2005 Vectra has cracked sidewalls and plenty of tread left and the Halfords guy says that some makes are more likely...

How do I jack up my 2021 MG5 SW EV (there's no jack)

That's useful info and I found lots of slotted pads on Amazon and eBay. Thank Alb

How do I jack up my 2021 MG5 SW EV (there's no jack)

I like the idea of a slotted piece of hardwood to fit over the sill seam which I can then attach to a couple of sissors jacks to prop up a side of the car. I could then swap front and rear tyres (I'm supposed to put front to back and then rear to front oppposite side but I'll keep it simple!).

How do I jack up my 2021 MG5 SW EV (there's no jack)

Thank you, Alb The back top end of the jack (below in your pic) goes into the oval slots in the sill or alongside them. I've added a picture of the underside of my sill below. Above: The pic from your post shows a black rubber piece that perhaps is used to support the sill? Perhaps this is a...

How do I jack up my 2021 MG5 SW EV (there's no jack)

Page 198 of the car user guide/manual shows how to place the car jack: But there's no car jack in the car, nor is there anywhere in the polystyrene fitting where it should be fitted. The text in the manual tells me to: Note that the domed head of the jack must fit into the corresponding recess...

Kers 3 at 100% on MG5 (also missing DAB Radio)

I read your post with interest and tried to leave my 7kW home charger on for several hours to get the battery equalisation done and perhaps have KERS 3 at 100% charge too. I don't know if all the cells equalised on my 21 plate SR exclusive and it was unable to get KERS 3 to engage until under...

Which charging cable to expect on MG4 delivery?

Good luck with your new MG4. I got a "granny" charger (13A plug to box to Type 2 socket which plugs into the car) + long Type 2 cable to connect wall box or public charger to the car. All the cars I've seen on sale have had the 2 cables.

Hi Dragon 2611, where did you get a BMS cell monitor and how did you produce the graphs?

    There's no way to charge a 2021 MG5 to 80%?

You are right Gomev! Perhaps in my mind it's the software that distances me. When filling V-for-Vectra wth petrol, you're also right that I fill it until the pump stops. But I'm not supposed to do that with MG5 EV. I understand that I must fill it to 80% - and the 'pump' doesn't stop at 80%...

    There's no way to charge a 2021 MG5 to 80%?

I don't know!! Perhaps that explains the difference between the current I set the Hypervolt wall charger and the charge I end up with. For example, I set it to charge to 80% last (very cold) night and this morning it read 76% on the screen. PS: I hate not knowing how this car of mine works! I...
