    Tesla charging in Ireland

I'm not sure I'd rely on them. I've linked an Irish Dec 2023 link that says only 2 superchargers are available. Other options include Ecars, Applegreen, EasyGo & CircleK. Tesla says other EVs can now use some of its Irish Superchargers (Dec 2023)

Does MG5 share mechanical parts with other cars?

Two years of driving my MG5 LR taxi over speed jumps has done some part of my suspension in. The official MG garage won't see me for a month! So I'm parked outside my old ICE mechanic waiting for a ramp. He's already said he doesn't think MG parts are available in my country (Ireland). My only...

Drivers side ripping rubber door seal MG EV 5 year 2020

I have a rip similar to the above but it's not as bad. It's not getting any worse either so I've tended to ignore it. fwiw, my car has been through 2 services (incl a so-called 'Major' service) and it hasn't been noticed by the dealership. Or it has and they're saying nothing :)

    Drivers seat frame

Take a look at what was written on the sale contract/receipt you got when they handed over the vehicle to you and see what that says. I'm a Dublin taxi driver (MG5 LR) and mine says: "Taxi warranty: 3 yrs or 100,000 km". Which is not very descriptive but sounds in line with what you were told...

    MG5 Second Service

I've never had such a bad car. MG5 EV

BTW, I'm not a fanboy of the MG5. For example, I don't like the software but I think no EV company has perfected their software yet. I can only think there must be something wrong with your particular car and maybe it needs a deep check at an MG garage. If you have some spare time, I might...

I've never had such a bad car. MG5 EV

In your first post, you mentioned the "cross control" was broken after 3,000km. What is that? A silly observation is that if you didn't get that fixed, that might be the root of your distance problems. You later mention only fast charging to 90-95%. The charging rate does slow down the...

Second Service for 2021 MG5 SR

In Ireland, I was charged €290 (~stg£250) for the 'major' second service. There must have been a lot of pushback about the cost because they got their excuses in straight away at booking time. I was verbally told it was a 'major' service because the brake fluid was getting changed but the...

    Irish insurance

I'm an Irish taxi driver with a 2021 MG5 LR. I had a similar problem back in late 2021 getting insurance - the MG5 wasn't on quite a few systems even though the MG5 SR had been out for a couple of years at that stage. Axa and FBD do taxi insurance for MG5's so maybe try them for private insurance?

Anyone recommend seat covers for MG5 exclusive?

Most taxi drivers in my country (Ireland) would install leatherette seat covers to protect their seats. Maybe ask a few taxi drivers or google for taxi suppliers in your area and go from there? The quality can be very good in most cases.

    AppleGreen Electric

Not quite true. Applegreen would in competition with ECars in Ireland, the EV charging subsidiary of ESB. Another subsidiary of ESB would be ESB Networks who run the cables & substations that power the EV charging points. And, technically, Ecars and ESB Networks are 2 separate companies...

Big summer road trip planned - any tips?

I live in Dublin. With a bit of planning, Dublin to the Northern Ireland border is ok but plan with the apps. There are 2 x 50kWh chargers in Dublin port, for example. However, the general consensus over here would be NOT to enter Northern Ireland without a full charge - the charging...

Strange attitude from MG Ireland. Are you dealing with a local car dealer? Maybe go above their heads to corporate MG Ireland. I'd be pretty annoyed if a dealer had a quick look at my 1 year old car and then said they likely wouldn't do anything further with it. The noises in my MG5 have 99%...

    Tyre Pressure & TPMS

Probably no harm to have a routine and check the tyres regularly? Mine were 2.2 until my local MG garage inflated the tyres to 2.6 after it's first service despite, as you say, the door sticker recommending 2.2! My local indie tyre garage didn't believe me when I told them the official...

I'm a taxi driver in Dublin with the MG5 LR. I started hearing a loud banging noise a week or so ago when the cold weather started. Scared the sh1t out of me considering the car is just over a year old and it got it's first service only 2 or 3 weeks prior to that. (No mention of anything amiss...

    MG5 Battery Degradation?

Here in Ireland, a few taxi drivers are keeping an informal tally so E&OE.... All MG5 less than 1.5 years old. 1. 80,000 km (~ 50,000 miles) SoH 97%. Home and Rapid charging, sometimes twice a day. Lots of motorway driving 2. 31,000 km (~ 19,000 miles) SoH 99%. 10% Home/90% Rapid charging as...

Would you expect rear lights on with Daylight Running Lights (DRL)?

https://www.rsa.ie/road-safety/road-users/vehicle-components/vehicle-lighting/daytime-running-lights-(drl) What is a DRL? A daytime running light or lamp (DRL) is a lighting system on the front of a vehicle which generally operate automatically when the engine is running emits a white light to...

Would you expect rear lights on with Daylight Running Lights (DRL)?

I'd like to think it makes me more visible and reduce the odds of getting rear-ended. TBH, I've never really thought about it, just assumed if front lights were warranted, rear lights would be too? I don't think other road users like cyclists make a distinction between front and rear lights on...

Would you expect rear lights on with Daylight Running Lights (DRL)?

@Cocijo & @Lguk - Thanks for the clarification. Just seemed odd to me that you'd have no rear lights in auto mode during daylight hours. You'd imagine you're just as likely to have 'crazy' drivers behind you as in front of you? @Cocijo Yes I do have the lights set to auto. I just assumed the...
