MG4 Should I get one? What’s the consensus from owners and those waiting?

You’re giving your family really bad advice. There are plenty of good EV options other than MG or Tesla.

    MG4 Range

194 miles at -6C is good range. 3.2m per kwh

    Charging efficiency

I always find it interesting that charging efficiency is rarely discussed when comparing running costs of EVs to ICE. If you’re losing 15-20% of the energy being taken from the grid, that significantly increases the real running cost of the vehicle, but all of the discussion is just about the...

    Breaking News MG4 Prices Slashed!

The ban is 2035 in the EU, so many millions of potential sales.

Reduced range after full charge on MG5 LR

It has been unseasonably warm for most of March-October this year. Cold weather like it is currently will significantly reduce range. 3.3 miles per kWh (57kwh useable i believe) isn’t that out of the ordinary in cold weather depending on driving style.

    Breaking News MG4 Prices Slashed!

Slashing your own prices doesn’t help you control the market when you have limited supply. That only works if you have stock to be able to take share from your competitors. It makes no sense.

    Breaking News MG4 Prices Slashed!

Seems like nonsense to me unfortunately. Why would MG significantly reduce the price of their vehicles when they are selling like hotcakes and there is no supply ?

Almost decision time... and decision made!!!

You said MG are a joke and need to start providing customer service. Doesn’t really change the point regardless, don’t give a company £30k of your hard earned money if you think they OR their customer service are a joke, surely….

Almost decision time... and decision made!!!

I totally get people who have purchased the car being frustrated as they’ve already committed to the product and put down a considerable amount of money. Given the level of concern you’ve expressed I’d honestly be surprised if MG can do anything in the next few weeks to really assuage your...

Almost decision time... and decision made!!!

You seem quite vehement in arguing that the issues are a concern, as you’ve not got the car yet surely you would be best swerving and saving yourself the stress ?

Almost decision time... and decision made!!!

You can read exactly the above post with “MG” swapped for “Volkswagen” or “Ford” etc on many other car forums over the years. Ford literally released an EV this year which had to be recalled because the entire windshield could fly off ! £50k RRP…...

Almost decision time... and decision made!!!

This is a good read for appreciating the scale of the MG4 issues on here versus proper recall problems. Toyota recalled 9 million vehicles in 2 years. MG registered 30,000 vehicles in the UK in 2021…. https://www.carvertical.com/blog/top-10-worst-car-recalls-in-the-automotive-industry

Almost decision time... and decision made!!!

Don’t think your post is fair really. Car manufacturers don’t do a recall out of the goodness of their hearts. The two recalls/fixes for my car were related to the mild hybrid battery wiring (it could set on fire) and the suspension (it could fail completely). Recalls are generally undertaken...

Almost decision time... and decision made!!!

The A4 I drive which is the 2020 model, has had two different recalls on it since launch. This is (I think) the third iteration of a platform which has remained largely unchanged aside from exterior upgrades for the best part of a decade. That’s not just a bulging undertray or a bit of oil...

    Motorway economy

What makes you say 3.2 is poor in those conditions ? There are many EVs which cost significantly more that return similar or worse figures at 70mph. EV6 and Ioniq 5 included. Cars like the original Audi e-tron which can return as low as 2 miles per I would say is “poor”, for example. Teslas...

Nov 17th Budget - Tax impact for EVs

It’s fairly simple surely, you just introduce a lower flat rate for any car which has zero emissions. It’s fair in my eyes. We need the tax income to pay for the services we all use in society, as EV use increases it’s logical that they would be taxed at some point. They can’t just lose that...

    Motorway economy

It’s a bit pointless talking about battery health over X number of years imo, as it is far more dependent on usage patterns than pure time. Over seven years if you do a 100 mile round trip to work every day you’ll end up with a much more depleted max capacity than somebody pottering about town...

Interesting piece on SE & Trophy battery comparison: Views welcome on 100% charge tolerance

I’m wondering if they’ve just got the 0-60 time wrong. Carwow’s review had the trophy going from 0-60 in 7.1 secs

10 to 60% in 15 minutes is a game changer in terms of long range vs standard range for me.
