Cost to run my ICE car. 🤪

30,000 miles - 2 years.. £24 in personally purchased sparks (free charging off works solar). Vs the yellow thing that at last check was 38p/mile. One still makes me smile more than the other though

Car tax from 2025 and the Expensive Car threshold

I do have my eye on the higher end model mustang EV for when the MG is up. A nearly new/low mileage offering is quite attractive

The great big insurance rip off

Just renewed my MG and it's about the same price as last year. 16k miles sdp+commuting and it's £550. Did a multi-vehicle deal for £800 to cover the MG and Mustang and can bolt on my other vehicles when they come up for renewal. Howden Insurance (not the kitchen people) formerly known as...

Other car forums and EVs. 🤣

As an EV is essentially a computer on wheels the 10mm spanner is for the "turn it off and on again" process of disconnecting the 12v battery, which fixes a significant number of issues preventing onward travel. I have 2 in my car as I lost the 1st one and ordered another, subsequently finding it...

Other car forums and EVs. 🤣

The Mustang Forum are quite anti-any model newer than 1970's - the reaction to a SUV using the Mustang name, and being EV has been incendiary.. Wouldn't rule one out for my next vehicle. Would make the club meets prickly though.

Problem with Octopus and an Ohme charger

You need to take that up with the installer/ohme. I. Had similar with my EO mini as the installer had left a cable off and had trouble getting it online and managed to accidentally register it to their own account, was sorted after a bit of harrasment to both parties. Sounds like you signed up...

    Octopus - Octoplus savings

Thanks. Picked up 1300 points to go with the 12,000 I already had from the savings sessions. They've implied (again) they'll offer other options than account credit in exchange for the points..

The great big insurance rip off

Exactly.. I spotted a nice Bentley GT continental for 15k that would be a lovely weekend car. However the road tax, insurance, 15mpg, and cost of servicing mean that it's not really viable on my disposable income with other weekend cars.

iSmart App Digital Key not working - The fix

This raises questions... Does the car show you how many digital keys are registered? Or could I bind my phone to an MG4 sell it, then go pick it up again a few weeks later using the app to unlock and drive away the vehicle?

Warning if you are thinking about going to full fibre broadband

My understanding is the device is remotely programmed but holds your settings 'offline' I went full fibre with an Altnet (Gigaclear) and they left my copper in place so my adsl is still up as a fallback.

Only 6 days left to have your vote on the MOT

For a period of time there was a very high % of French vehicles failing their first mots for mechanical items. So I get the reluctance on the 4 years change. You only have to look at America to see the shonky kinda lethal crap we could end up with driving around if there wasn't an MOT at all...

A NOT SO short update on our British Gas Hive EV charger installation.

Our new work Rolec units are government configured and will not charge between 8am and 11am or 4pm and 8pm. We have to apply to override this as we have our own 200kw solar array + BYD batteries. Should add. The solar is set in south/east/west orientations to catch morning sun and late...

A NOT SO short update on our British Gas Hive EV charger installation.

I discovered, through my installers ineptitude. That my EO mini 2 will work in dumb mode with the comms cable unplugged, should big brother start dictating when I can use it. It will be getting unplugged.

    Tesco stupid parking restrictions

30 minutes after closing is usually to deter anti-social behaviour from groups of cars. Sometimes this isn't always the stores choice and stipulated by local councils. You'll likely find paying to park longer than 3 hours doesn't include outside of store opening hours. Some stores around my...

Does the lady protest too much?

I think many would be happy if the first step was them ensuring the chargers are maintained and in working order.

    Octopus Go

I got the the text below and a link to the current fixes available. Exit fee or £75/fuel and includes switching tarrif as well as moving to a new supplier. If you simply can’t afford to risk prices rising again, we are offering fixed price tariffs to existing customers. The fixed prices we...

    Octopus Go

Octopus just offered me a fixed term, fixed rate, gas/electric tarrif, with a significant exit fee. My understanding is Go will shift to a variable rate tarrif rather than a fixed rate/term. For me, I rarely charge at home, but I load shift as much as I can to the off-peak, so my average cost...

    Octopus Go

You need a compatible charger (currently only Ohme) or a compatible vehicle. MG are not listed, MGs without an app (early models) have zero chance of ever being compatible, but the later ones have an outside chance, but it does require MG to communicate with Octopus.

A NOT SO short update on our British Gas Hive EV charger installation.

Possibly not cheaper than Intelligent Octopus that works in a similar way, like BG it only works for certain charge points or certain vehicles. Still a complete farce they removed a smets 2 meter for no reason.

A NOT SO short update on our British Gas Hive EV charger installation.

A smets2 meter is a smets2 meter.. I could understand if it was smets1 and they insisted on a new one as they can't read from it, but this seems to be completely pointless.
