    MG5 Roof rails decorative only

The load rating is almost certainly a SWL (safe working load). In the case of lifting equipment that’s 1/6th of the Breaking Strain. A good deal of built in safety, in the case vehicles I don’t have the knowledge but I would imagine the vehicle safety comes into it too. Too much top weight...

    Charge cable release.

Great idea thanks for sharing. I’ve had the release issue a couple of times. It’s supposed to unlock on the fob but I’ve noticed opening the door and doing the bonnet release actually released the plug??? Strange but worth checking before going to the bother of removing the cover to emergency...

    MG5 Roof rails decorative only

All very confusing. I received a handbook amendment when the roof rails were approved. I do hope other owners have the same. Perhaps newer versions have have it already printed in their handbooks. I’ll bet anything you like that most vehicle owners with roof rails will exceed the load limit at...

    Long distance trips

150 real winter range for me, you have to try really hard to get over 3m/kWh in winter especially at motorway speeds. CPS is a pretty good network but you’re not in Scotland long. Make it Gretna from Stranraer and there’s plenty of charge points that are contactless. South into England I use...

How do you turn off the heating

Changing the thread slightly- started to get low on power a couple of times on a long run and range needed to get to a charge point or home. Switched off a/c and heating and slowed down but with wife , luggage, 2 damp dogs and wet coats I wasn’t popular! Windows just steam up!! Having said that...

    250 miles.... NOT!

My MG5 SR is showing around 215 on a full charge. (9months old and 7000 on the clock). That drops around 20miles on the GOM as soon at you switch so anything related to the A/C… We’re on a long winter drive soon (Covid permitting). It’ll be be interesting to see how the car and the network...

ChargePlace Scotland App not activating any charge points

I have a CPS RFID card (had it for a long time, and it dates back to before SWARCO). Apart from the initial change over it’s worked everywhere on CPS chargers A/C and D/C. Except of course where there’s a problem with the charger sadly there’s quite a few of those on the CPS network. I do wish...

    Suspension upgrade

I find the suspension fine and ideal for the deteriorating British roads. Way better than VW, Merc BMW etc, which are all too hard. Yes they handle well but they really ‘crash’ on rough surface and don’t ride pot holes and speed bumps etc. My main criticism of the 5 is the under steer and the...

    Automatic limiting of overnight charge

I have a BP charge point which unfortunately needs a mobile signal for over the air control. Useless mobile data where we live. If I’d known that I might have chosen a different 7Kw charger. Mostly I just plug in for a couple of hours to top up. More than sufficient for the local runs we do...

Hesitating on MG5 Long Range / Exclusive (UK)

That’s interesting, I must have missed the point about the face lift. Glad you clarified that it makes my interest in the LR over the Standard a lot less. There’s me been telling people how desirable the LR is. I’d been convinced it was only the front end that was different.

    Long Range Affinity Price

Sadly the LR with the face lift doesn’t seem to be coming to the UK. Probably something to do with RHD, who knows. Watch out for a LR face lift though. The market changes so fast. where’s the Marvel R? (Shame about the name). Sounds like a decent bit of kit but at what price I wonder.

Hesitating on MG5 Long Range / Exclusive (UK)

I’ve had my MG5 214 range for about 6 months - couldn’t resist the deal but I’ve been very pleased with it. It does exactly what it says on the tin with extreme competence. It’s lovely to drive, comfortable, quiet, relaxing. The LR will address a couple of issues though. MG pilot would make...

Loss of battery power while laid up

Thanks I did wonder if I should have left more. Most batteries are best left near full, but that was the old lead acid type. Not so sure about the new lithium batteries but it’s a good principle, I must see if it’s mentioned in the hand book.

Loss of battery power while laid up

Thanks for your thoughts guys - interesting subject. I’m going to keep a check on it in case it’s an indication of something amiss. mid we say it lost 10% of real range in 18days then it’s only 1 mile a night. I just wonder how normal it is. Using it everyday you’d struggle to notice.

Loss of battery power while laid up

We recently took a 16 day road trip in our Motor Home so the MG5 was in our garage for approximately 18 days with a 35% charge at the beginning. When I went to get her out she was down to 20% and asking to be charged. I’ve read about this possibility but never experienced it, last long park up...

Hi self isolating MG5 ev on the drive

Absolutely, I’ve been doing that for years, garages won’t do that, tyre places are even worse. I have to say I’m not taken by the wheels and I’m considering some aftermarket better looking ones, nice MG centres and maybe the dust covers to complement. Most importantly I’d change the tyres for...

Throttle control instead of cruise control.

Steady speed works for me! Power drops down hill, and even a slight regen. Obviously to maintain speed up hill you and cruise need more power. If it’s safe to do so, you could go back on throttle up hill but from experience I’d say you’d be struggling with only 10% power. enjoy experimenting.

    New longer range MG5

Great car - superb value. Really like the new look front end, what a shame it isn’t available in the UK - Yet. Who knows, there maybe a change of heart or future plans or maybe they’re using up the parts bins on us???

    New longer range MG5

Shame the face lift isn’t coming to the UK. I’ll bet it’s not worth the effort and additional cost to import from Ireland. Definitely not worth it just for the facelift. I’m waiting for the Marvel R!!! Let’s see what the next 12 months brings. EVs are evolving so fast - can’t keep buying nee cars🥴🥴
