battery

An electric battery is a source of electric power consisting of one or more electrochemical cells with external connections for powering electrical devices.
When a battery is supplying power, its positive terminal is the cathode and its negative terminal is the anode. The terminal marked negative is the source of electrons that will flow through an external electric circuit to the positive terminal. When a battery is connected to an external electric load, a redox reaction converts high-energy reactants to lower-energy products, and the free-energy difference is delivered to the external circuit as electrical energy. Historically the term "battery" specifically referred to a device composed of multiple cells; however, the usage has evolved to include devices composed of a single cell.Primary (single-use or "disposable") batteries are used once and discarded, as the electrode materials are irreversibly changed during discharge; a common example is the alkaline battery used for flashlights and a multitude of portable electronic devices. Secondary (rechargeable) batteries can be discharged and recharged multiple times using an applied electric current; the original composition of the electrodes can be restored by reverse current. Examples include the lead-acid batteries used in vehicles and lithium-ion batteries used for portable electronics such as laptops and mobile phones.
Batteries come in many shapes and sizes, from miniature cells used to power hearing aids and wristwatches to, at the largest extreme, huge battery banks the size of rooms that provide standby or emergency power for telephone exchanges and computer data centers.
Batteries have much lower specific energy (energy per unit mass) than common fuels such as gasoline. In automobiles, this is somewhat offset by the higher efficiency of electric motors in converting electrical energy to mechanical work, compared to combustion engines.

    New Car Battery health issue

I bought a new car (MG 4 Standard model 2022 ) and from the first day I noticed manufacturing defects such as air entering the car at high speeds. Unfortunately, the seller was a bit deceitful, he did not update the software and said the car is working, why do you want to update it! But all this...

    Battery health mode

I was wondering if this common to all MG4 models, or just my trophy. When I select “battery health mode “ in my vehicle, it always charges to 100% And the option no longer seems available under EV management in the app anymore? I also select 80% in the Octopus energy app and that also get...

    Replacing 12V Battery

After a couple of times recently when attempting to start the car showed the ‘HV Battery Shutdown message’ I noticed the 12V battery was showing about 11.8V. I popped my booster pack on and it started instantly - once started, the dash showed 14.6V for the battery. So, I suspect my 12V battery...

    Battery voltage

Hello guys, i've done some research online but I can't seem to find definitive answer what my battery voltage is. I own MG ZS EV from 08/2021 with 45000km on the odo. After balance charging it shows 404 volts. I read that it should be around 450.. is this valid for the facelift model that I have...

High Voltage (HV) Battery - Best Charging Practice?

There's an informative thread over in the MG4 section about Balance Charging: https://www.mgevs.com/threads/balance-charging-a-few-questions.14135/ My question, born of ignorance, is whether there are any 'Best Practice' documented procedures for keeping the HV battery in good shape? In my...

    MG4 Xpower times vs battery

Hi guys, I feel like I'm having issues with my Xpower and don't feel the performance is living up to the expectations. I've started to record some 0-60mph/100kph times and compare against battery levels. My expectations was that I would start losing performance at maybe 20% battery, but it seems...

Shocking battery drain when not used....

Well it didn't, not even 1%. We were moving house and living in out of the motorhome for a month so the MG was left at a friend's house. Parked up with 51% on 11th June, picked up today and still had 51%. Should I write to the Daily Mail to tell them? :ROFLMAO:

    Surprisingly short battery balancing period

I've just done the first full charge (8% to 100%) for our new car. Surprisingly the battery's balancing took only 8 minutes. Perhaps this is an indication of how beneficial a long slow charge is? (This was with a granny charger.) The other unexpected thing was that on the first drive the...
