battery
An electric battery is a source of electric power consisting of one or more electrochemical cells with external connections for powering electrical devices.
When a battery is supplying power, its positive terminal is the cathode and its negative terminal is the anode. The terminal marked negative is the source of electrons that will flow through an external electric circuit to the positive terminal. When a battery is connected to an external electric load, a redox reaction converts high-energy reactants to lower-energy products, and the free-energy difference is delivered to the external circuit as electrical energy. Historically the term "battery" specifically referred to a device composed of multiple cells; however, the usage has evolved to include devices composed of a single cell.Primary (single-use or "disposable") batteries are used once and discarded, as the electrode materials are irreversibly changed during discharge; a common example is the alkaline battery used for flashlights and a multitude of portable electronic devices. Secondary (rechargeable) batteries can be discharged and recharged multiple times using an applied electric current; the original composition of the electrodes can be restored by reverse current. Examples include the lead-acid batteries used in vehicles and lithium-ion batteries used for portable electronics such as laptops and mobile phones.
Batteries come in many shapes and sizes, from miniature cells used to power hearing aids and wristwatches to, at the largest extreme, huge battery banks the size of rooms that provide standby or emergency power for telephone exchanges and computer data centers.
Batteries have much lower specific energy (energy per unit mass) than common fuels such as gasoline. In automobiles, this is somewhat offset by the higher efficiency of electric motors in converting electrical energy to mechanical work, compared to combustion engines.
Well not sure if I've actually done a conditioning charge or not?
Came back from a holiday trip with 13% charge remaining, put it on the granny charger for 24hrs to 100%
It's been very hot for two weeks (around 25-30°C) and today as I stepped in my car, a notification popped up saying ambient temperature is low and whether I should turn intelligent battery heating on.
The car has a weird sense of humor or its sensors have actually suffered from some kind of...
So I’ve had my 5 for 3 weeks and really pleased with it. Couple of silly questions - what is the difference in Eco, Comfort and Sport modes - I assume sport is more responsive but will use more battery? Can’t tell difference between comfort and Eco. Also when fully charged it shows a range of...

Whilst producing photos for another thread I set my Trophy charging using the granny charger. I was distracted and left it charging beyond the short boost I wanted. It reached 41% before I remember it so I opened the app and set the charge limit to 40%. I wanted to see if the car would stop...
Silly question
What does the 12V battery run and what does the electric run
Wife wants to know so she knows what doesn’t run the electric charge down to reduce mileage
I've just received my MG5 trophy and have Zappi charger. I was charging using solar energy only and battery on car reached 61% when charging stopped and said syatem is full.
I disconnected car and reconnected and charging continued.
Any ideas as to why it would have stopped and said syatem full...
Hey guys, I went to work yesterday and when I arrived the car had 22-23% battery. Six hours later when I got back to the car it showed 18% and after just 12km of modest driving (average speed 30km/h) it reached only 10%. The estimated range fell during that day from ~120km to only 50km, while...
Hi everyone. I'm contemplating buying a MG5 in the near future and I'm currently with Octopus. I was just wondering what charge/tariff to plump for?
Many thanks in advance.
We bought our new ZS in Feb 24 but it's build date is quite a long time ago - it has the sunroof!
We had the Road Angel dash cam fitted with permanent power - dealer fit using the piggy back fuse holders. It's set to shut off at 12.4V I think.
Anyway we have been having low 12V battery warnings...
Edit: Originally, I thought I had an issue with my Zappi not being able to charge the car, but after testing other AC charging points (cutting out after fifteen minutes or less) and contacting the dealer, I eventually found out it was an issue with the car, namely the charge control unit, which...

This morning. Checked car to make sure he was awake and ready to accept a pre-heat command later.
Internal temperature 9°C
External temperature -7°C
Last driven on Friday afternoon (that's the day before yesterday), and even then not far enough to warm the cabin. Given the frost on my windows...
Hi Everyone
I am new here so please be gentle :)
I have just bought a 2021 lr mg5 to replace my extremely old and thirsty Mercedes.
I am slightly like a kid at Christmas with a mix of excitement and anxiety as this is my first ev. I used a few at work but haven’t lived with one.
I wanted to...

How do you actually remove the 12 battery?
I have dead 12v battery on my MG5.
I thought it would be a simple job to take it out and charge it but it seems to be held in by some framework that needs disassembly first.
Am I missing anything obvious?
Going to France tomorrow so in a bit of a panic!
Hello everyone,
I posted this as a reply in a thread previously, but I feel it deserves it's own thread so that anyone googling this problem will find a good resource with steps to take to resolve the issue.
Background: I bought my MG ZS EV in November 2022 and in the following year the 12V...
My 3rd MG5 service inspection revealed a bent battery lugg, obviously caused by an impact with something on the road. Although I might have done it while reversing on a decorative rock outside someone's garden.
MG said, although it's not affecting anything I should keep my eye on it just in case...
