Soo..

On a facebook group for MG ZS EV owners there is a guy that is very adament that if he takes his leased MG ZS EV to a 22KW AC capable destination charger and plugs in his car, which has a 3 phase charger, he gets 22KW.

I call bullcrap, but he is very persistent.

So simple question is....Have anyone ever heard about any 2.gen ZS EV that has a 22KW onboard charger ?

Tried getting him to take a picture of the sticker on top with the charger model, but for some reason he has not done this. I would have been able to see if the unit id was different from mine which is a 3 phase 11KW.

Find it very hard to believe that MG would advertise it as being 11KW, but then it was 22KW capable. I would argue, that it would be a good selling point if it were.

Unless it's a variant from another region but
I thought (and I could be wrong) in Europe (Ireland for me) it was just the gen1 that had the AC 11kw built in so it could charge at 22kw ( 2 phase, 11x2=22),
on the old public fast chargers. (Faster than home anyway) 😄

and that mg decided for gen2 that the majority of charging in Europe would be DC fast charging 50kw+ , so no point including the built in AC 11kw (for 22kw).
And leave just the AC 3kw (6kw) for home chargers.

My gen2 (2023) in Ireland only charges at 6kw on a public 22kw AC chargers, so I don't bother with it unless parked for the day, ( like the office, or an event show).

I aim to use DC fast chargers when travelling which gets anywhere from 50kw to 75kw depending on the charger and weather temp.

In Europe (Denmark atleast) they had 2 variants.

Comfort and Luxury, most times the comfort was most probably the same 1 phase charger you get in the UK, it does 230V 32A which means that at normal homes with 3 phase 16A, you would get max 3.6KW, but at a charger that does 32A, it would be able to get 7.2KW.

The luxury most times came with the 3 phase charger, they advertise as 11KW.

Question is.....Was there ANY region where they added a 3 phase 22KW charger.

He does say it's an import that he then leased, but i have never heard of any other country where they sold a car with a 3 phase charger that did 22KW at places where that would be possible.

I charged ours at public chargers that were supposedly 22KW and i always buy 22KW cables, even though i dont have a 22KW enabled car, but i never saw more than 11KW being put on per hour so mine is not a 22KW charger.

When i say "Most of the time" above, it's because there were shorter periods where they had more variants, for example comfort long range with 3 phase charger and even luxury with 1 phase charger.

It seems to me, they did this, based on what they where able to actually source, component wise at the time.

I know, at some point they also removed the sunroof from the trophy range in the UK, probably due to supply shortage. The sunroof was never removed from the luxury version here in Denmark as far as i know

Even if he had a 11Kw three phase charger the wattage is 11kw? the car would charge faster but it would not show 22Kw no matter what charger you are using and it is the car which determines the load not the charger

Yeah but he said that he would get 22KW when charging at a 22KW capable destination charger. Most destination chargers here are 22KW, probably because, why not.

And he did use a 22KW capable cable as well.

I am very well aware how AC Charging works, the wallbox, the cable and the car all have ways of signaling how much current they can accept and the lowest denominator decides what is done and the onboard charger is the one that sets the charge current, based on those 3 things, abilities.
