Driving to work the other day stopped for a coffee when I got back to the car it would not engage gear.
The 12V battery warning light was on and the car was showing vehicle control system vault
Also showing connection not recognised with a picture of a charging cable.
When the AA finally arrived he tried a booster pack no joy put on his scanner which said unknown fault ( that was very helpful )
He tested the 12V battery and said it was dead and would need replacing and the car would need recovery.
When the recovery truck arrived I phoned the nearest MG dealership where it just had a service and mot.
They said sorry can’t take the car in we overrun with cars at the moment and can’t even look at it till 28th next month and it would cost £250 just to plug it in to the computer.
So we had to be recovered home it was late n the evening by this point.
Next day got car booked in at another dealership for this Friday and it’s only £140 to plug in and test .
But the AA will not take it to the dealership they where told by MG head office not to because it was recovered home and not the dealership. I explained what happened; they are just not bothered.
So I am have to pay to get the car to the garage
It’s strange this has happened just after the service I am thinking a update gone wrong. Let’s see if MG will honour the warranty. I am beginning to regret choosing MG.

So, has the 12V battery been replaced? Sounds like that's worth doing (as it needs doing anyway) before paying a dealer to do it for you and charge you £140 + their over-inflated prices + the cost of getting it there.

My OH has used Tayna batteries (on-line) many times successfully for next day delivery.

Yes 12V replaced still the same the same issue

Did you leave the 12 volt battery disconnected for 10 minutes or so to clear any faults?
This is known here as the 10mm spanner fix.
Disconnect 12 volt battery go and have a cuppa, go back reconnect battery and see if the car works.
good luck
Pete

I'd assume, unless he works for Kwik-fit, that it took more than 10 mins to change the battery.

Fingers crossed for the diagnostics outcome today, keep us updated 🤞

Quick update car recovered to MG Middlesbrough when rolling the car off the truck the parking brake engaged N flashing on the gear selector and it would not move.
Stuck on the ramps of the truck had to put skids under the front wheels and drive the truck forward till it came off the ramps.
The garage just called saying they can’t get the car to do anything MG told them to do a hard reset that would sort it out guess what it didn’t.
How it’s stuck in the middle of the dealerships car park the master technician is not back till next Thursday they now trying to figure out how to move it into the work shop 😳
I can see this turning into a farce.
Why sell cars that you don’t have the ability to fix

Sorry to hear about the troubles Billy. It does seem that there is too much reliance on technology in cars these days.
If it had a mechanical parking brake then one could have just released the brake.
I hope that they can sort it out fast for you
Pete

Thanks, but to be honest I am expecting it to take some time. When I was taking to the technicians, they didn’t sound very hopeful, and seemed out of their depth.

Sorry to hear your woes Billy, I had my ZS off the road for three months until the dealer eventually got a tech down from MG to look at it. It took a week to fix then - tech took battery out and diagnosed faulty modules on day 1, parts took 5 days to get, tech returned, fitted parts, and car fixed the same day.

Looking on the bright side, the car has run perfectly since then!

I hope they don’t take that long on mine but I have a bad feeling.
If the dealership technicians can’t fix it hopefully MG will sort it out but I am starting to lose confidence in MG.

Knowing what I know now, I should have harried the dealer a lot harder when they admitted they didn't have a tech qualified to work on the battery. Some dealers just aren't bothered about customer service these days, it's sell the car, then it's your problem mate!

They should at least have given him a free of charge courtesy car until they can get it fixed, not his fault they dont have anyone qualified for a week.
