I know it’s not a proper 4 x 4 but I was a bit surprised when I was parked on some grass on an incline and the front wheels spun but the back wheels didn’t turn ? As anyone else had the same problem ?

Anomaly right there!

There is no mode where just the front wheels spin.

That shouldn't happen.

Rear wheels yes, Sport and Snow Mode, all 4 wheels have power.

But Regardless of mode, if you boot it hard enough all 4 wheels will receive power.

4wd in forward only, not reverse.


Caveat : Was the car moving forward or just stationary with the front wheels spinning?

Were you going forward in Sport mode ? .. or reversing ?

I was reversing up a mild slope in standard mode

The car isn't capable of using the front wheels in reverse.

I proved this over the winter on some snow and ice last winter.

There is a thread with pictures here somewhere, but I'll be 'jiggered' (morning mods) if I can find it!

Worth remembering when its snowy/icy if you need to make a U- turn !!

If you are throwing your car about a lot then stick with the summer tyres and appreciate that they will be more prone to spinning on slippery slopes. If you are not so enthusiastic and want to be a bit surer in slippery conditions then when the time comes change to all seasons e.g. Continental AllSeasonContact 2's are a very good compromise and will last around 50,000miles. The all seasons have really come on in the last few years and are better than a lot of summer tyres with the added advantage of surety when the temp gets below 7c (when summer tyres loose their lustre)
The tyres are more important than 4 wheel drive.

If you get 50,000 miles out of a set of tyres in the XPower then your driving it wrong

I've never seen that mileage from one set of tyres in my life. I got 18,000 out of my 4WD T-Roc and thought I did well.

Guess I had company cars for years and they are different to when you have to pay for your own tyres.
