63 AH 12V Battery

I have a two year and a half years old EHS; Itis fitted with a 63ah battery. After a few days use a message comes up warning me that the 12V battery is low and that the vehicle should not be left for more than three days. I then connect a trickle charger until it indicates full charge. However, after a couple of days use the message comes up again. I don't know the life expectancy of the battery and wonder if it needs replacing. Any comments welcome,

12V batteries in MG cars don't have the best of reputations when it comes to longevity so it may well be on its last legs but don't rule out the possibility that it may be a charging issue or phantom drain.

You need a quality charger that can perform rejuvenation or a similar term charging and it will take at least 48 hrs to see any improvement.
The problem is short cycle semi recharging causes sulphation on the plates. This results in a fully charge voltage being shown well before all the sulphur has been expelled from the lead plates and back into the electrolyte. A pulse charge is required to break the sulphur layer off the outside of the plates and free up the sulphur trapped deep in the plate so it can return to the electrolyte and bring the specific gravity back up .....

Well, I guess that depends on your choice of night wear .... no idea how that snuck in there, maybe a carry over from a post on another forum where a member was saying they couldn't get a full nights sleep any more and I suggested they save the negligee for special occasions So, up to you, if you feel your sleep pattern can handle it ....

My 4 behaves more reliably after whacking a new battery on sheduled charges would sometimes fail and ismart would stop responding rather quickly. OH has a 21 plate Hs phev, without warning it decided - HV shutdown, no warnings but it has been open a little while whilst cleaning (nothing excessive). It wouldn’t go.

New battery (varta 027 as I recall) and well away. Replacements are both a little heavier than the original SAIC plus doing it at your leisure you can get a decent bargain. I used Halfords with works rewards points.

If you need to charge battery (is the display complaining?) or is it flat?

If it’s flat it’s already got no power ergo no matter. If it’s complaining. Let the car charge for a bit possibly ?

Basically why do you need to charge as you could be better off letting the car charge it or you may be in need of replacement.

As for saver - don’t bother. The car will complain a lot when you reconnect but after 1-2 drives all warning normally disappear.

Battery is four years old and going flat so wanted to replace it.
Now I have read that the radio module initialising message that came up a few days ago means the battery is being drained even when switched off.
Another thread has said how to reset the module so that's my next job before I change the battery although by disconnecting the battery may resolve the other problem until I can get the software update ?

Understood. This happened to OH car.

My advice would be take battery off car definitely not worrying about battery saver, charge the thing up and see if it’ll survive but be prepared for it to no last. I say without the saver as some people have solved it with a battery off.

As for that issue - the dealer was useless. Beware the heat unit isn’t part of the 7yrs warranty, drops out after 3 or 4 years iirc.

We got the files from here, unpacked them onto a usb, followed the instructions (pressing all four corners to get to the relevant menus), a few mins updating and the radio sprang back to life.

The original batteries are pants (my 4 and the have both had new ones), you can feel the weight difference in a replacement.

Ok, changed the battery for a new 5yr warranty Bosch and the radio issue has gone with the reset.

Would like to do the software update just in case. Your reply had a "here" but it did not do anything, can you give me the link?

I meant this forum. Can’t remember where is was but found from a search on radio module initialising.
