ABRP, Android Auto and OBD2

I've run into a little problem with getting ABRP to work with OBD2 data (using a VLink MC+) over Android Auto and was wondering if anyone else has had the same issue.
Simply using ABRP with my Android phone (Google Pixel 8 Pro) works just fine, ABRP allows me to select my car and I can see SoC, Power, Voltage, Degradation, Location and Elevation ok. However, if I connect the phone to the car either by USB cable or by my Carlinkit 5.0 2air, and try to use ABRP on Android Auto, each and every time I try to "Select your vehicle" in vehicle settings, I get an error message as follows:

I can see the OBD2 data with CarScanner ok, so what's happening here?

I can't say for sure, but here's a few hints.
I have all you mention working fine, but do not try to use the dongle for anything but ABRP as that make break the link (but read on)
Get the dongle connected to your phone, BEFORE adding the extra element of Android auto. That's what you need to get working. The user interface on android auto is just not good for connecting the dongle.
Android auto works fine after that.

If you have trouble getting the dongle talking to ABRP on your phone, try doing (contrary to what I have just said!), setup a connection to eg Car Scanner. Then try different variations of disconnecting /closing car scanner, whilst attempting to link to the dongle (finding the dongle in ABRP.
I have just changed phone and have had to fiddle quite a bit. It may connect, but then lost the next time in the car. Lesson learnt, once you have it working stable HANDS OFF ??

Thanks for all that @webhiker . However,
The dongle communicates with ABRP on the phone with no problems.
I can't get any confirmation on the phone that the dongle is connected, but CarScanner connects ok.

How do you find the dongle in ABRP?
I still can't get ABRP to read ODB2 data via Android Auto at all, but it can still read it on the phone alone.

Now, I've just uninstalled ABRP and re-installed it, whilst at the same time disabling CarScanner. I now find that ABRP is recording the OBD2 data. Would I be right in assuming that you can only view that recorded (and live) data on the phone, and not via Android Auto on the screen? I can't see any way of viewing it.
Also, I've found that while CarScanner is connected to the OBD2 dongle, ABRP is not. That, I think, was my original problem.
On top of this, my vLinker MC+ seems to be triggering the car alarm now, despite it supposedly being auto powering down. In fact, prior to being able to connect to ABRP, it didn't trigger any alarms!

I have joined the community here as I am having the same problem. I have connected my OBDII dongle with BLE (Amazon.co.uk) and it will connect to ABRP on my phone, but if I plug in via the USB to my MG4 and use Android Auto the dongle works for a few seconds then disconnects.

I have tracked this down to when the car initiates the bluetooth connection to my phone for calls etc, but this cannot be disabled as Android Auto just reinitiates the phone bluetooth connection. So it seems I have the same problem that I can have AA or ABRP with live data, but not both.

Is this likely just that I have chosen the wrong dongle or is there anything else I can try?

I use a vGate iCar Pro 2S (AliExpress) and whilst I haven't used ABRP I have used Car Scanner. That app works fine both phone-only and also via Android Auto.

I use the same dongle as siteguru and I use it for ABRP. works fine 99.5% of the time. Only snag is that it can't be connected when I lock the car, as it sets off the alarm. I have worked around this by using a OBD2 cable with an on/off switch

Which cable do you use ? I'm thinking of buying one but I heard people got problems like alarms going on and a long list of error
