Hi there
we own a MG 4 EV trophy long range. My Mrs is the driver and she is not fun of the adaptive cruise control. it behave very strangely sometimes. for instance, just this past Sunday we going to the charging point to charge our car and the car just braked for no reason in the middle of the busy traffic. Also on several occasions the car drive off path on the motor way, this make her very nervous driving the car(she is a new driver). is there something wrong we are doing and if not how can we turn off the adaptive cruise control

Is it ACC or TJA (Traffic Jam Assist) that is being used?

Is LKA (Lane Keep Assist) turned On? (That's what can steer the car, and TJA works in conjunction with LKA)

I find ACC a bit like a learner driver - over-cautious at times, and then race up behind a vehicle and brake harshly. I tend now to not use it except if on the motorway/dual carriageway.

How long have you had your car? You need to feel safe driving it.
I would go back to the dealer and ask them to go through all of the controls and settings until you understand how they work and feel more comfortable with them.
A good dealer will do this for you.

we got the car last month. unfortunately our after sale rep was not that good. this individual has not even driven the car before. he was just learning how the car works as in the same moment showing us how the car works. we ask him a question and he just brushed over it as he did not hear it. he was more interested in selling their over priced gap insurance to us more than showing us how the car works(we did not go with the gap insurance, we founded a good deal somewhere else)

If you can I would ask to see the sales manager and see if you can get someone to help. It’s poor customer support just sending someone out with a new car without any help.

This the problem Nowdays some in fact, quite a few in my experience car dealers know far less than they should do about the products they are selling, and are far more interested in sell you add ons like gap or paint protection.
Sad but that’s the way it his today gone is 30 minutes sitting in the car with you to explain what things do or how they work.

Many years ago when I was just a lad as an apprentice at a Rootes dealership when a new model arrived all the sales staff where given a training session on the ins and outs of that new model and myself or one of the other young apprentices the would when I car was to be collected that be sent to the nearby florist shop to pick up a bunch of flowers to be put in the car with a bottle of wine I think it was.
When I picked up my new MG I got a baseball cap for one of the grand kids and an MG pen and key fob that was that not even a but it came with a very small handbook and start guide now the MG4 doesn’t even come with that anymore so I purchased one of them from Sloucher on here worth having for sure.
My advice would be the same to your wife as I said to my wife which was, forget about the toys, switch them off for now just drive the car as a very normal car, one that’s not fitted with all the MG Pilot rubbish and once you ok with that and the car then you can learn them other bits and toys one at a time and even in better weather and lighting.
That way your wife is in control
Les.
Just one quick question if you can say where did you get a good deal on the gap insurance if you don’t mind thank you.

Our sales guy sat in the car with us and gave us a very full run through all of the infotainment screens and guided me through binding my phone to the car and talked me through the iSmart app. He also produced a really nice bunch of flowers from a local florist. So at least some of them have remembered how to do the hand over.

Stop using ours all together when it very nearly put us into a wall in the road works on the M6 at 50mph

My dealer also spent about half an hour in the car with me on pick up, ensuring it was bound to my phone, getting Android Auto working and going through all the options on the screen.

No flowers or goodies though 😢

It is Brown and Gammons in Baldock. They're a classic MG specialist as well and have been for years. I remember going there in the 80s for parts for an old MGB GT that I had.

My dealer spent a good while taking me through screens, binding phone sorting out sat nav as well. baseball cap, 2 key fobs , carpets, diamond ceramics and all the cleaning kit and swapped out granny charger for type 2. No flowers though😊

Great. I'd forgotten, but ours also set a few favourite radio stations for us. And we got an MG key fob for each of the keys. All small things, but they do make you feel good and view the dealer in a positive way.

It's funny how people want different things. On our handover I just wanted to be left to get on with it but he kept trying to explain things I already knew.

I'd already read the manual multiple times, watched every video online and read every post on here so likely could have shown him a thing or two.

The "product specialist" at my dealer was all set to explain everything to me on handover ... however he very quickly realised that I actually knew more than he did and just let me get on with it and get away. 😀

Yes, I can get that. He left me to my own devices on the test drive as he knew I was already driving an EV. He basically just gave me the key and showed me where the driving modes were, which was great. But I was quite happy for him to go through the screens with us as I'd not read the manual.

Same here, Mine just walked me through the basics and I took it from there.
