Hi all,

My MG EV 4 SE has been flagged as needing a AirCon antibac cleanse and ac regas service. Doesnt affect the warranty apparently, been quoted £199 to do both, is it worth doing?

And you can buy anti-bacterial spray things (also they deoderise) from places like Halfords for less than a tenner. In 22 years of driving the only aircon service I ever had was on a Mk.1 ford focus when it stopped working. The key to keeping your aircon healthy is to make sure it is used regularly.

I've been recommended an Aircon service for £89 instead of the usual £99 - the message didn't say just what that included though, I'm doubtful it would be regassing, however they did add this "also it helps in the cooling of the high voltage battery on the car, that's why we will highly recommend to get it done" 😱

"cooling of the high voltage battery" sounds like marketing BS, I've only ever heard people speak about losing range because the battery packs are cold (and heating themselves). I doubt it ever gets hot enough in Manchester for the pack to be cooled down. And even if it needed it, isn't that what the coolant liquid is for? Pretty sure the car doesn't use the AC for this, but someone more knowledgeable may come along and shed some light on these claims.

Of course, if it did use AC they wouldn't let you turn it off! 😂

oh, this has cropped up again as I'm in for some warranty work soon. The dealer sent a video this year showing what they do for the £99 - drain oil/refrigerant, test for leaks, refill, "system debug" antibacterial treatment. Actually seems reasonable value at £99 considering R1234 is quite expensive, one of those things I feel I should do after 3 years but also know its probably upselling something I don't really need :cautious:
