All season tyre choices

Why are you saying tyre wear at 40-50%? The standard fit tyres have a shallower tread depth from new I believe ... they don't start with 8.5-9mm tread depth.

Yes, the stock tyres start with less so "40-50% percent relative to what?" is the question.

We are coming up to 2 years, 22,000 miles in March and expect to need our first change of tyres by then.

I'm simply quoting the Stoneacre report. I've no reason to believe it to be correct or incorrect. I'm on here to see what others think. Tyre report from the service is attached.

Exactly this. I've no idea what tread depth I started with and I guess that goes for the dealer too. However, if I'm to believe the report on the tyres given at the service then I won't get 8000 miles out of them.

That sounds low, unless you make a habit of disabling traction control and pumping your right foot!

The Bridgestone Turanza T005 EV appears to only have 6mm when new (apparently to reduce road noise) so if you're treads are 5,5mm you have basically new tyres on there, nothing to worry about.

Starting with 6mm instead of 8-9mm, like most tyres, is of course a different story. Some people might feel like they are being cheated out of a few mm of wear. Personally I've never really liked Turanza tyres, especially in the wet. I find these are the same for me, triggering the traction control in the last rain shower. I admit I drive with a heavy foot though, so others may have a better experience with this brand.

I'm also not aware if the UK cars come with the same Bridgestones fitted as standard, this may just be the Australian market.

I bought 205/60R16 HANKOOK K117 96V XL. £247.98 for my 2021 MG5 at 20,000 miles for the front wheels. The rear tyres show no wear at all as, like my wife, they simply follow (in my dreams). They are quieter!

Have you seen the Every Electric Show episode about ENSA tyres? It's going to disrupt the tyre market with longer lasting, quieter and more efficient tyres, I believe. There are few regulations about tyres manufacturing yet they cause 14% of the particulate emissions.

Given the car's ability to shift, I don't drive to any extremes. Mostly urban driving at 30mph or less. I'm trying to work out whether the dealer has it wrong on the % wear or the tyres really do wear out fast.

Just had to replace one of my rear tyres due to puncture and went with the Bridgestone Turanza 6 all season. Definately an improvement over the factory tyres. Getting the opposite side replaced next week after payday.

Funny, I had to do the exact same thing this past weekend. Rear right slow puncture.

I want a set of Turanzas but being this close to Xmas I thought better of it and replaced like for like with a Conti.

Looks like ENSO tyres are currently only available for the LEVC TX1 black cabs and Uber drivers.

Replaced the other side this morning. Car sounds quieter, and feels smoother. Will be going on a proper road test later on.

This is definitely something Im looking into. My ER MG4 was in for its first service today. It's only done 3500 miles in 12 months. Mostly town driving. I do not drive like a loon. However, I was pretty shocked to get tyre wear at 40 to 50%. The rears worse than the fronts and have 4.5mm on both tyres. Are the standard fit tyres known to wear so fast? I haven't checked them myself, but I have lovely video from Stoneacre of the depths being measured. With the standard tyres it can get a bit slippy in the wet at relatively low speeds and grip feel scarily light at 60 mph plus.

Honestly mate, try the Michelin 'Cross Climate 2', you won't regret it. grip in water, snow, ice and hot, dry condtitons. Exemplorary in my experience !

For safety's sake mate, not a good idea to mix tyres on any vehicle, even more so with extra power !

Completely agree. Due to the puncture I could only replace one tyre as could not drive car to tyre fitters, so had to remove wheel and take it there, then go back to get other side matched.

Well, after two reschedules from Blackcircles not having the tires at my fitting centre, the CC2's were finally put on yesterday on my way home from work.

Only managed to drive about 6 miles home at peak time in torrential rain with mild flooding on the road, and they are miles better than the conti's that were on it. No sliding about at all when I press the accelerator.

I also put a set on my Volvo T6 XC70 last week. Done a couple of hundred miles on they ones and so far so good. Had a decent run on the back roads between Glasgow and St Boswells (Through Carluke, Peebles, Galashiels etc for those nearby) early hours in the morning, showing -7°C on frosty roads and they never missed a beat.

They are very good. I literally sleep better knowing my lad has a full set.

We had a few sets on our last car, a Honda FRV Diesel, and they were very reassuring to drive on, especially knowing Mrs S likes to corner (ahem) spiritedly!

Got the Michelins fitted. Had a decent drive in the car today and it feels so much better - no sign of it trying to step out or not grip, including on roundabouts where it was doing that before. Also seems quieter to me. Happy so far
