You can download maps for offline line (so would use less data overall). It would still work best with being online for re routing, traffic etc

Could be tricky as I don’t top it up very often. ?

Yep...that would be my issue as I do not use my mobile phone often so only use prepaid with little data which would soon run out.
Luckily I have a Garmin SatNav with voice control and map updates for life that I can plug into a USB port. Some say the SatNav on the Trophy is a bit dodgy anyway...who knows?
I bought the Garmin many years ago when they were quite expensive.
