Oh lol, I just realized, you guys can tell the age of a car by it's plates, thats what the 69 plate from TS tells you. Im from the Netherlands, we dont have such a thing. (Well you could kinda figure it out maybe since they are assigned chronological, but i depends on how many cars are sold at a certain time, they just switch to the next letter when all plates are gone).
Anyways, good to know, i guess that tells you the AAWireless will behave the way you described with TS car. For MK1 it's great tho, would recommend! Dongle sits nicely down at the usb port and you can dim its LED so you wouldn't notice anything about the car and assume its just wireless. Very fast too, and you can easily swap phones with the button on the device.
Their system is really strange for us "foreigners"
69 = September 1, 2019 until February 29 2020
But if it was registered between March 1, 2019 and August 31, 2019 it would be a 19 plate.
Here it is not possible to figure out when it was first registered from the license plate alone, but instead we have an app that can tell us all of that info, including when it had its last MOT, what insurance company it is insured from and also things like the mileage at the last MOT.
I know, in Germany, the first letters shows what "county" the license plate was issued, but i dont think you actually need to change the registration if you move to another part of the country.
They were talking about making license plates that were electronic. This way you would not need to physically change the plate, you could get it reprogrammed somehow.
This would also allow the license plate to change to "Invalid" if the MOT ran out, road tax or insurance was not valid and/or be able to change it to STOLEN if the car was reported stolen.
Could be made using the e-paper technology, this draws very little power, when not updated, which these license plates would not need very often.
