OK I am spoilt as my main car is a BMW I4 and the BMW App has always worked. I have imstalled the MG App and it seems so tempremantal; sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I sorted out the pairing but more often tahn not I get a message saying 'Vehicl Not responded' even when I stand next to it. I have tried unlocking/locking etc. etc. Is there something I can do or is the App just buggy?

The App can be a bit of a problem but recently has worked well. AFAIK, It will depend on what you want to do. Some commands are via Bluetooth or mobile signal, eg locking/unlocking whereas others are only via the mobile signal and Chinese servers, eg status. Poor mobile signal no car response.

I always request a status first before refreshing the home page, that seems to awaken the car. But the car can go into deep sleep and unlocking/unlocking is required.

Never had any issues with it. There's a couple of features I would have wanted that aren't there, such as turning on the AC at a specific time, but I've never had issues with the app not working.

The app works fine for me. There are some limits on what you can do between locking and unlocking the car, for instance you can only run the AC remote twice in a row.

I always refresh the home page before asking anything else from the car, almost like a little wake up call.

The only thing I don’t think is reliable enough to.. well, rely on, is the remote key through the app. The two times I could’ve really used it, it didn’t work for me. Thankfully my physical keys were within walking distance, but it was a bit of a let down nonetheless. It does work most of the time, but I don’t have enough faith in it to leave home without my keys.

Well my MG App is definitely hit and miss. Working at the moment but didn't last night. very flakey and I wouldn't want to rely on it to check if the doors were locked or how much charge it had reached whilst I had a cup of coffee. Great when working but unfortunately doesn't work all the time for me.

I often have to refresh the front screen multiple times to get the current state of charge. Often it will just show ---.

I don't have many problems with no communication to car, but it's certainly hit and miss whether it will unlock car when commanded (over net not Bluetooth key).

The UK version of the app is definitely buggy (and poorly designed), but as long as you use the car regularly, the issues can normally be worked around with the odd refresh or two.

The main irritation is if it is not used for 'a few days' it can go in to a deep sleep mode, which needs the car to be prodded in some way to wake it up. The recent versions of the app will respond with a message telling you if it may have gone in to this state.

To wake it up, all of the following have worked for some people:
Unlock & lock.
Sit on the seat.
Press the brake pedal.
Drive the car. (Sometimes more than just a mile or 2 to the shops).

And if the unlock & lock works for you, but you don't want the headlights shining in to the house opposite, then just waiting for the Bluetooth to connect and restarting the app can also work without having to actually unlock 🤔

Weirdly, all of the Bluetooth functions have worked perfectly for me 🤷‍♂️.

Depending on software versions the car can go into power save mode after 24 hours and will not respond to the app unless you unlock and lock it to wake it up. Tends not to do this if plugged in to a charger.

There can also be issues with certificates renewing and having to accept T&Cs again in the car from well hidden tick boxes.

Aside from that the only problems have been when there is poor mobile reception or the MG servers are down.

After weeks with no problems and then not being driven for a week, today even an hours drive didn't fix it. And to no ones surprise, the battery disconnect did fix it 🙄.

As an aside, after the disconnect and reset procedure, all the errors disappeared just by turning off on the pull down menu and restarting a couple of times. No driving required.

I have to say I haven't had a single problem with it working other than if I haven't driven in a few days, which makes sense as it likely goes into a sleep of some sort.

I actually have to correct myself a little bit there, the one time I did really need it to work it did. I had the thing happen where the car self locks after closing the boot lid, even though my keys were in my bag in the boot. Of course it then wouldn’t open again, so thankfully the app did its thing and unlocked the car for me.

I still wouldn’t want to make a habit of that, but at least it did its job that one time.
