Apple car play

Hi all! I have tried to access Apple CarPlay through using my new and genuine Apple type c to lightning cable and absolutely nothing happens. I’m beginning to build a catalogue of faults with SOS lights coming on, MG smart app not binding as no QR code available. Can anyone help please?

Type C port on the car is for charging only. You need a USB A to lightning. I have android and mine only works on the USB A connection

Thank you for your reply and advice.
That’s annoying especially as my dealers service manager suggested I purchase a type c cable as my type A was only working intermittently. As for charging, the car has wireless charging anyway.
