Article mentioning poor understeer on HS PHEV

Hope I am allowed to post a link here MG HS PHEV review: budget SUV with big value but flawed performance to a review on the HS PHEV. It mentions for country driving that the car has very significant understeer "like a three-legged dog".

Just curious what those who actually used the car for a while think. I have ordered mine, expect in June.

My personal opinion after 9000+ miles in my 2025 MG HS Trophy PHEV, is that 'report' is rubbish.

I come from Golf GTi, Fabia vRS, remapped 200+ hp diesel Yetis and a Skoda Superb Sportline iV.

The MG handles as well as any of them, I have not noticed any excessive understeer issues and I often drive in a 'spirited' manner, not excessive speed but I enjoy my cars and my driving.

Perhaps it should be remembered that it isn't a sports car, its a pretty heavy SUV but despite that, I am at a total loss as to why the tester should make that comment.

Glad you feel the same as me, goes to show that all review comments are highly subjective. My test drive felt great on the road conditions I tried. The article also takes about a 7 speed gearbox but am pretty certain that the PHEV only has a two speed so potentially the research into the car is also flawed.

That's correct, the 2025 HS PHEV has a two speed gearbox. You'd think these 'skilled reporters' might be able to read the MG HS brochure to check the facts....

However, I have done quite a few miles on motorways and dual carriageways over the last week and been quite alarmed at the way it seemed to “stick in the groove” when changing lanes. Anyone else noticed this ?

I haven't noticed this on mine and do a variety of roads including dual carriageways and motorways.

Tyres on mine are Bridgestone Alenza and I haven't adjusted the pressures since I collected it (9000 miles now) - they tend to sit at around 2.4 bar cold, 2.5 bar hot - according to the onscreen display.

Could be due to the ELK? Works ok when using indicators before changing lanes

Good thought re the ELK setting.

Personally, it's one of my 'switch off' (well to 'alert') jobs on start up (the others are to select 'sport' and the dreaded 'pay attention' pinging - telling me I need a coffee is okay!).
