I find the auto dip feature of the MG5 more trouble than it's worth and wondered if it's possible to turn it off completely.
Last night I was driving on the motorway and the headlights kept going onto full beam even though there were cars in front of me. I frequently find myself having to check them as I just can't trust the system to work properly and sometimes I realise the car has not dipped the lights so I do it a fraction of a second after the car finally does and end up blinding oncoming traffic.
I like the auto on feature so it's just the auto dip I want to turn off. Is this possible in a PFL?

My PFL does have Auto-Dip, but I agree its behaviour, along with the Auto-Lights feature, is not without its foibles, to say the least!

Like @Alibro I find I need to keep a very close eye on how/when/if the Auto-Dip "works", or doesn't!

And the behaviour of the Auto-Lights, and whether or not they activate, is very bizarre. My wife has an MG3, (not the hybrid+) and its lights will turn on even in quite bright conditions; my MG5 exhibits exactly the opposite, the lights not turning on until it is really dark, most often darker than I would like so that manual activation is regularly required.

As to the question of whether the Auto-Dip can be disabled; I'm sure you've noticed that manually changing from Dip to Beam, or vice versa, will disable the auto facility. BUT it does re-enable itself, sometimes very quickly, sometimes not so quickly. As I said, "not without its foibles"!

Yes I find the same thing but am less concerned about auto on being slow as the DLR 's keep the car visible (from the front anyway) even with the headlights not on.
I think I manged to turn off the auto dip feature by holding the stalk forward for a few seconds when dipping the lights but didn't get a chance to properly test it.
The strange thing is when I first got the car auto dip didn't work at all even though I had the lights switch on the auto setting. It was only after a month or so that it started working and now is just a pain putting the lights onto full beam even if there is a car in front.
The way I see it the only reason for having auto dipping lights is so that the driver doesn't have to think about the lights at all. If the "feature" leaves us annoyed and frustrated and having to constantly monitor it then it is not fit for purpose and doing the opposite of what was intended.

It might be one of the things that is better in the FL. The auto main beam seems quite good in mine. The only problem time is driving in the fog when main beam isn't very helpful.

On my PFL I've disabled the auto full beam in the menu system. It stays off after restarting the car.

I just had a look and disabled it on my car too so hopefully that will be the issue sorted.

I mentioned earlier it didn't work when I first got the car so probably the previous owner had it turned off and without realising I've turned it on.
It's a pity it is so unreliable as when it does work it is a nice feature but I can't be bothered having to constantly monitor it, It's far easier doing the job myself.

I tried turning the car off and on and it seems to have stayed off which is handy. Pity the same can't be done with the stupidly inaccurate speed warning.

Auto dip works pretty well in my PFL . Only issue is in twilight conditions . It can't seem to make it's mind up if it's dark or not . As @emmrecs said , I normally switch to manual in those conditions ...no biggie

FWIW I found the PFL auto dip a bit laggy sometimes but the facelift seems a whole lot better and more dependable

Yes, I have found this problem too on my facelifted 2023 MG5 and its getting worse. I could not turn full beam off the other night and had to park at the side of the road. I was going to turn the car off and on again, and as I came to a stop the full beam switched off! Very, very annoying. I was enjoying the fact some weeks ago that the main beam came on along some of the country roads I drive in the dark hours but now its becoming a nightmare. I hate it when other drivers do that to me. I've also experienced a similar frustration when its very dark, full beam doesn't automatically engage, yet sometimes with visible light and even cars on the other side of the road, they engage. Switching to manual doesn't last and I find its engaged itself again. I wondered if I had a faulty sensor or steering column switch issue. In the settings I believe one can switch this automatic feature off.

Yes I disabled my auto-dip too, as well as being a pest I found it dangerous, the reason being that when driving on dark country roads some highly reflective road signs triggered the auto-dip which was a bit alarming especially on sharp bends.
