HS PHEV
This might be the stupid question of the day?
But here goes.......

Reviewers of the latest HS PHEV talk about it having a 2 speed gearbox.
Is that only when using the high voltage battery? Then does it switch to a conventional 7 speed DCT transmission when running on the petrol engine?

Reviewers might be referring to the petrol model when they mention the 7 speed DCT, the Hybrid and the Plug-in both have a 2-speed auto transmission.
Ok cheers for the info.
That explains the totally seamless gear changes if it's only switching between 2.
But it doesn't explain the nearly £1000 4th service. I assumed that included an ATF change?

Yes, if you mean this one, it's the MG website.

I’ve no idea what this information is, but it’s the official information from MG Germany. The PHEV and Hybrid+ don’t have a 7-speed gearbox, but a 2-speed one.

Exactly, that's why I'd like to see a link to the page above, it's obviously incorrect.

The link I posted a few posts back is where I took the screenshot from Clive.
But when I click on it now it shows completely different info?!?
How is that possible?
Surely a link can't change? 🤔
Ahh right, so your Post#6 is just a screenshot from the Google search in Post#4, I was thinking you'd Google searched, then clicked one of the search results (if that makes sense).

I think it's just the Google search that's changing isn't it, a search can change every time you search for something, your original Google Search in Post#4 is different for me now, I now get this, and you got something completely different.mg2.webp

This is what I Googled...
"MG HS PHEV 2026 7 DCT"
I've searched the same words a few times now, & it throws up different results nearly every time? 🤔

Ahh right, that question will confuse the search because the PHEV doesn't have a 7 DCT, try searching "Does the MG HS PHEV 2026 have a 7 DCT" and see what you get.

Yeah, that confirms it's a 2 speed.
I'll leave it at that. As it's doing my head in! 🤪
Frigging Google obviously can't be relied upon! 🙄

The gear changes are even more seamless than the 9 speed box in my Merc. So I'm definitely not complaining 🙂

Maybe someone with a high level of EV gearbox knowledge. Will be kind enough to explain to me how the exact same gearbox can be talked about as a 2 speed & a 10 speed? 🤔

Edit...
I know nothing about EV gearboxes. But I do know about gear ratios.
i.e. changing front/rear sprockets on motorcycles to achieve quicker 0-60's or decrease revs at high speeds to improve mpg etc.
So using that logic. If my HS only has a two speed box.
Logic would suggest that 1st gear would have to be a wildly different ratio to 2nd gear. How else would 1st gear achieve a 0-62mph in 6.8 seconds in such a lardy SUV?
Therefore I'd expect a very noticeable lurch between 1st & 2nd.
However, it's the complete opposite. It's smooth as silk.
Therefore the "10 speed" idea makes much more sense.
But I still don't understand how a 2 speed can also be described as a 10 speed? 🤔
