Auto High Beams on IM6?

I drove the Launch Edition and was also surprised by the omission of auto high beam. The only thing I could think was that it perhaps might be automatically activated when driving with adaptive cruise and lane steering operative. Overall, I thought the car excellent but I would like to have seen a HUD, full Matrix headlamps, one pedal driving and a massaging seat for the front passenger, too.
I can confirm that there is no auto main beam under any driving setup, tried them all, just in case. And I absolutely hate the lane keep assist implementation, it is horrendous, the adaptive cruise control ain't much better - to the point I now hesitate to use it all. Don't get me started on the "collision assist" it is down right dangerous, must be switched off for a narrow single lane each way twisty Scottish road., even the lowest setting is far too schizo 😨.

Errr, that triggered me a wee bit.....🤣

Yes, but they need to do better and the IMs compete in a market where such things had better work...
Totally agree and said the same in a thread while back that MG needs to up their game with the IM cars as they are moving into a totally different market and what they get away with on a budget car they can't with the IMs

Similar for my IM5; LKA and ACC are only usable when there is no traffic.

This is disappointing news, I'd hoped for better.

Mind you, I'd like a wholesale different approach to safety: one that learns from aircraft / trains in terms of how to maximise focus, minimise distractions and genuinely make driving safer.

I'm again still torn: MG/IM huge value vs. dodgy software / aftersales.

It surprises me a bit as I thought there would have been lessons learned with the early MG4s and the poor implementation of the safety systems on early cars, they have managed to sort most of them out now with various updates but it has taken a while.

I thought they would have made sure this didn't happen again with the IMs, with them being a more prestige area of the market and not a brand new model, the safety systems would have a far better implementation.

It would appear not as that is the same issues in Australia and the UK.

Me too. I suppose if they have started again with the tech platform it may take a while to match the maturity with the latest MG4 updates.

Which is why OTA updates for the IM are so important.

I still think price is a huge motivator and I could see myself buying one anyway, but the lack of progress and change on the software side is a major concern. It is a big part of the poor aftersales experience - arguably the biggest cause of negative experiences.

I have a software industry background, so I am also realistic that they may just continue to churn out beta quality stuff, doing it well is hard.

The thing is the platform the 5 & 6 is on has been around since 2023 since they were launched in China. Probably different tech/software in the home market.

How do you think something their size would cope with some of the roads in Cornwall, I have found a lot of them similar to our roads in the Highlands ( not the most generous in terms of width)

Yes. I believe the software we get is engineered somewhere in Europe, but probably from a common base.

I think the size will be ok, it isn't that wide and the main issue with Devon / Cornish lanes is the inability of other drivers to reverse (especially Range Rovers). It will fit in passing places.

What people don't realise is that all the delivery vans for supermarkets and local buses go through these lanes every day and they manage just fine, even though they are much bigger than any car.

I am wondering about different versions to RHD/LHD market on the various subsystems is very different. I am reading about the MG4s ELK for years on this forum, but I have had mine (LHD) for almost two years now, and never turned any of the ADAS systems off in mine, just because there is no need to. Same with the auto high-beam. Are the problems much worse on RHD cars?

The roads, lane markings and layouts are much worse in the UK than Norway or much of China, that makes the system's job much harder.

Visiting your country is like coming to a perfect Lego world where everything is shiny, clean and maintained as it should be.

I personally found the auto-high beams ok, just a bit slow to switch, so I turned them off shortly after I got the car nearly 3 years ago, but maybe the software has been improved and I should try them again.

I think you are spot on, having done a bit of driving in Norway over the summer, for the most part your roads are way better than ours (to be fair there is a lot less cars using them than here)

I did the same. I've had the lane keeping SC update done and on R67 now. Auto high beam is still too slow to react so I leave turned off.
