Auto High Beams on IM6?

Hi Tonyrome,
I’ve got to agree, I was actually looking through the system yesterday as I do quite a bit of European driving and I think your right, I couldn’t find any adjustments for the other side of the road. Perhaps we will have to stick on the old fashioned headlamp deflectors !
LEDs headlights do not normally need to be adjusted owing to their flat beams.

Hi everyone,

I picked up my IM6 Long Range yesterday and so far I’m really enjoying it! I’m not sure if anyone else in the UK has taken delivery yet, but I’ve got a quick question.

Does the car actually have auto high beam? The handbook refers to “Intelligent High Beam,” but I can’t find a way to get it working in the car itself. I’ve got the lights set to AUTO, but the high beams still seem to need manual operation.

Has anyone else tried this, and if so, what’s your experience?

Thanks in advance!
I’ve had it confirmed by MG customer services this afternoon re my IM5 long range that this is not a feature on either im5 or im6 and low /high beam switching must be done manually! I am staggered and pissed off as I had this on my much cheaper mg hs petrol for years! I was happy to go without a HUD but coupled with lack of auto high beams I would have gone for BYD seal or sealion instead. I really miss this feature whatever other people think of it and it is idiotic to advertise a car as tech advanced but miss this off! See the IM5 thread on same issue.

Not exactly news to most of us. However, it is a strange thing to not have. Fortunately, it is not something I use…..

The auto-high beam Matrix LEDs on my Volvo are magnificent and they should be on a high spec car like the IM, together with HUD. There is not much missing from the IM spec but there are a few strange omissions.

Chinese lighting tech is still catching up with the best. Generally where there are omissions it is either because the Chinese do something differently or they are not quite there with the required tech. The number of things like that is fast shrinking.

What I find strange is that there are no Matrix headlamps or HUD, which are now quite commonplace and no longer so expensive, yet they have fitted four-wheel steering, which is still a very unusual feature and surely a far more expensive one. I had the latter back in 2009, on a Renault Laguna Coupe and it was brilliant but 16 years on, there are still very few cars with it fitted.

Another reason for this might be cost management.

To keep export prices down, Chinese makers do strip out some technologies. Some of it is obvious: eg no Heatpumps for UK MG owners, lack of grab handles, no rear wiper/back seat lighting or charging when the MG4 came out.

It is possible matrix lights are offered in China but not here because of a conscious cost-cutting decision. The low prices have to be achieved somehow.

Maybe they felt the size of the car meant that rear steer was essential for UK/EU roads but matrix lights not.
