Trying to buy a long range mg zs EV.

The battery health cert reads 96% but the dash reads battery charged to 72% but will only do 167 miles.

That didn't seem right but I'm new to this.

Any help?

Hi Clive,

Thanks! I edited my OP as the reading is 72% not 76%. The advertised range is 273 miles, so 220 miles would be quite a bit under that. Is that normal?

Range is related to how the car was driven in the last X miles.

If the previous owner did a lot of motorway driving in the last X miles, the expected range available for a given state of charge will be lower.

The "remaining miles" is often, for good reason called the "Guess-O-Meter"

We had a ZS EV LR from new and when new, the GOM would predict about 211 - 212 miles of range when charging to 80% with both mileage trips reset to zero.
As the car aged to about 2 years this figure reduced slightly.

You'd have to give it a full charge to see for sure, a full charge might get it up to 230ish, which I think would be perfectly acceptable.

Hi, Reset the the miles per kwh on the speedo.
Charge to 80 or 100%. Put in eco mode and you will see the expected range.
I have had my long range for over 3 years and when I charge it to 100% it shows over 280 in normal mode.
In the winter this will go down to around 230 to 240 miles and in the summer it is usually over 300 miles. I drive the car as I would an ICE car and always in normal mode.
