Battery Longevity

Does anyone have worries over the battery longevity ?

Came across this article, of an 8 year old Hybrid Merc requiring a new battery.

"Mercedes owner horrified after £15,000 quote for battery - more than the car is worth
Retired driver Ranjit Singh was left stunned after he was quoted £15,000 for a new battery for the Mercedes Benz he bought second-hand just four years ago for £27,000"

Article states he also took it to a specialist who couldn't offer him a different solution.
Appreciate it's comparing apples and oranges, but the MG hasn't been out long enough to know.
It's just a hybrid with a tiny battery that cycles frequently and fails like most hybrid batteries.

This sounds like sensationalist nonsense - it's a 'mild hybrid', not even a PHEV, so what size of battery has it got? Must be pretty small surely? I don't see this is related to BEV longevity in the slightest. It is a good story for those who like to perpetuate the myths about EVs though - as can be seen from all the social media comments related to this.
125 volt battery

Look, if you drive a Petrol cars you will have high fuel costs, lots of maintenance & servicing costs and the engine / gearbox typically last just over 100,000 miles. Engine / gearbox rebuild c£5k. Crash it and it is a write off after a few years.

If you drive a diesel you still have high fuel costs, lots more maintenance & servicing costs and the engine / gearbox typically last just over 150,000 miles. Engine / gearbox rebuild c£10k. Crash it and it is a write off after a few years.

An EV battery typically lasts 250,000 miles, Tesla's are doing 450,000 miles and the new LFP batteries 1 million miles. Low fuel & servicing costs, minimal maintenance. Cell replacements say £2k to put it back on the road. Crash it after 200,000 miles and you have £5-10k of battery pack underneath to sell on.

An 8 year old Mercedes hybrid!! If that’s the case it’s a tiny battery and not worth replacing at any cost. How many folks keep a new car for 8 years from new, not many I would speculate. We have a 3 year old EV with no noticeable degrading of the battery. A first generation hybrid would no doubt have no BMS either. Mild hybrids are almost pointless anyway, manufacturer’s need to meet emissions targets.

Don't know were you got those stats from.
Most of my vehicles do over 150k before I out them.
Petrol Vectra used as a van from day one. Just short of 150k before I outed it oil, plugs and one set of pads and disks. Still run fine.
Ford Ranger used for towing 1ton cherry picker 250k oil, diff and gearbox oil one set of pads.
Fiat Doblo 371k still on the same engine, clutch and gearbox. Big ends finally let go. Needed steering rack and wiper blade linkages in that time.
I've always found petrol engines cost more to run and maintain.
My current Combo van has only made it to 84k but that was my fault as under pressure to get to work and tried to cross a deep ford☺️
I expect an ev,s running gear to be worn out before the battery

Averages are not exceptions or I'll quote the 1 million miles Tesla model S
