Brand new s5 boot opening problems

Hi after two drives and 50 miles i discovered the boot would not close causing an orange fault on the dash i then told the local dealer at cheshire oaks who booked me in for two weeks later
However being an ex fitter i tried numerous ways of sorting it out and then realised the boot was set on the dash to open to its highest setting but it did not look high to me ?
So i gave it a bit of elbow to raise the boot to its highest position and did this a number of times to exercise the boot opening dampers and voila the boot now closes ok and actually opens to its new correct height
A bit disappointed that the garage did not tell me to try this as it is booked in for a full day for investigation and i am not sure if dealers actually charge the manufacturer a days work for this kind of fault which i am sure could and should have been able to fix in a few minutes

It appears to be a common fault with the S5 boot as many threads on here talk about it. Hopefully a software fix will remedy it in the future

It seems to be a common calibration issue or as in your case the mechanism has "set" with a lack of use and owners are discovering a few different ways of curing the problem.

Let the dealer know how you've fixed it so hopefully they will report back to MG and include the check in the PDI.
