Hi after two drives and 50 miles i discovered the boot would not close causing an orange fault on the dash i then told the local dealer at cheshire oaks who booked me in for two weeks later😳
However being an ex fitter i tried numerous ways of sorting it out and then realised the boot was set on the dash to open to its highest setting but it did not look high to me ?
So i gave it a bit of elbow to raise the boot to its highest position and did this a number of times to exercise the boot opening dampers and voila the boot now closes ok and actually opens to its new correct height
A bit disappointed that the garage did not tell me to try this as it is booked in for a full day for investigation and i am not sure if dealers actually charge the manufacturer a days work for this kind of fault which i am sure could and should have been able to fix in a few minutes

It appears to be a common fault with the S5 boot as many threads on here talk about it. Hopefully a software fix will remedy it in the future

It seems to be a common calibration issue or as in your case the mechanism has "set" with a lack of use and owners are discovering a few different ways of curing the problem.

Let the dealer know how you've fixed it so hopefully they will report back to MG and include the check in the PDI.

Or some WD40 like we did in the olden days :)

Have to say all, I’m not confident of the reliability and longevity of the MGS5 after all I have read online and my experience having owned brand new for a few weeks now. I think the only plus point is the price, it makes it feel slightly easier to live with such niggles and issues (even though we shouldn’t have to) that I have never had with a new car before. Customer service I knew was bad as well as general reliability when I bought to be fair. I notice though the price of EV cars coming down again in the UK generally, including as announced today by Fiat. Can we be as confident about the warranty as we should be? Can anyone tell us about positive action taken under warranty for the MGS5 to date?

Don't forget that people who have no problems with a car rarely post about it and there are far more of them.

I'm confident in the warranty that if it's specifically covered they will honour it. The problem is that the dealers have to thoroughly investigate the defect and explore all possibilities reporting each stage to MG before they get approval to progress to the next. This takes time meanwhile the customer is getting pissed off. I know because I've been through it with my MG4.

I do wonder if it's because they are bringing new cars with updated software and technology they aren't doing as through testing as the legacy manufacturers do and each defect is treated as part of there research and development. This has the advantage that new developments are brought to the market quicker and cheaper for the consumer. The disadvantage is that a few consumers end up as guinea pigs.

You look at any social media group for a specific car and you'll find problems. For example Hyundai have problems with the infotainment screen on their older cars stopping working just as they come out of warranty. Mercedes EQA's front suspension problems just after the 3 year warranty runs out.

In a lifetime of buying new cars and keeping them until they are scrap, the only completely niggle free car I've had was a 2012 Audi (until, after 13 years, it died a protracted and painful gearbox death). My understanding is that 2012 was the heyday for Audi and that their quality has fallen off a cliff in more recent years.

Essentially, all cars come with niggles (a word which, interestingly, iOS does not try to autocomplete.)

So far, touch wood, the niggles on the S5 have all been software (the pig-awful radio being the best example.) Mechanically it has been faultless; actually exceeding my expectations.

So what problems have you had in your few weeks of ownership?
