Only just picked up my IM5 and loving it but I’m struggling to find how to switch the auto high beam function on. Headlamps are in auto mode but I still seem to have to operate the switch between dipped and beam manually.

Can anyone out there give me a clue.

Thanks…..JSGP

The answer will be in here

Yes, I thought there would be an auto dip function. I keep comparing the IM5 to my old phev Prius, which had this function - it wasn't very good tbh. The Prius would also stores lots of records too. Which the MG doesn't...

Yes, I found the reference in the manual but no idea how to operate....

I have had my IM5 long range for just over 1 month now and love it.. EXCEPT FOR the lack of automatic high beam assist! It appears this has just been left out of the final specifications on the production run for UK market. In the Manual it only mentions low beams under auto light operation and then on the next page only describes manual operation of switching from low to high beams!!

Why this has been left out I don’t understand and to be honest it is ruining my enjoyment as I am in the middle of rural Norfolk and driving in areas without street lights but where there is other traffic and I have got used the the convenience of having auto high/ low beams on my previous much much cheaper petrol MG HS! I am finding myself still occasionally forgetting that they aren’t dipping automatically and then get flashed by the oncoming car to remind me I’m in high beams!

I have been on all forums and researching on internet and it just seems that on both IM5 and IM6 in all trim levels there is no automatic high/low beams switching only manual!

I have asked dealer and they don’t know and I have emailed MG customer services and await reply.

Hopefully can eventually be rectified by way of an OTA update.

Yes, it has been mentioned on the forums and FB for a while. I asked MG about it a week or so ago but really do not expect a reply!

I can't say, personally, that I would miss this feature to be honest.
My recent MG4 had it and I found it far too slow to react to oncoming cars. However it was only too eager to switch from high to low beams every time it caught a glimmer of a reflection from reflective road signs. There's a set of traffic lights high on a hill, around two miles away my route home, and the headlights would dip every time those lights turned red in the distance!

It's like a lot of these new things great if they are implemented properly, pain if they are not

I messaged IM Motors on FB about the lack of Auto Dip. Did get a quick reply, but just said - Thanks for the feedback. We note the requested feature is not on the current model. Apologies for the inconvenience. Your input has been forwarded to the product team for review

That is a disappointing response. However, I’m still hoping this could come via an OTA update. Perhaps trying to keep this as an issue in the inbox of MG UK as well as getting dealers to report up the chain might encourage this? In my opinion it SHOULD come as an OTA given in the £40k plus EV market I would be astounded if it is not standard on every other car in the UK market. It is definitely standard (along with a HUD) on the slightly cheaper MGS6 EV long range! I accept some people on here don’t like the feature but i have found it very useful on the MG HS petrol I just changed in favour of the IM5 as well as the Nissan quashqai I had before that! There has always been a manual override if the sensors aren’t 100% on occasion anyway. It just seems like a crazy backwards step (or silly oversight) on what is an otherwise extremely advanced car technologically.

As an aside on the a couple of the other advanced driving aids, I personally think the one touch parking in particular is absolutely spot on and have no issues with either the pilot or acc having driven on both quiet single carriageway rural roads and busy motorways quite a lot in the month I have had my IM5 for.

I have just had a reply from MG customer services regarding automatic high beams which confirms that this is not a feature on the IM5 or IM6. High and low beams can only be switched by manually toggling the wiper stick. There is no indication that this will be altered by way of OTA update and is likely not to be a feature until they decide to update the Model in a few years time. Regardless of how people feel individually about this feature I find it staggering on a car in this price bracket, both IMf5 and IM6, not having this standard. Personally I had been happy to forgo and HUD on the basis of the other features that the car had offered but if I had known that this feature was not available in all likelihood, I would have opted for the BYD seal excellence over my IM5 long range, especially given I was unable to get insurance for the IM5 performance and my insurance for the long range is almost £2000 compared to £850 for a BYD seal excellence.

No auto high beams would in no way be a deal breaker for me, only use it now and again on my car.
£2000 a year insurance would however be a deal breaker, that is a ridiculous amount and I would have looked at other options

I am confident that my old Tesla model 3 did not have auto dipping beams when I first got it back in 2019. It came as an update further down the line.
Therefore I can't see why this could not also be implemented for the IM5/6 once OTA becomes a reality.
For the time being I am not bothered since all my driving is within city or motorway and I was getting flashed a lot with the Tesla being slow to respond on occasion. Especially if a car was coming from a side road.

If this is the case one would hope MG could retro fit through software update direct to the vehicle. I has a BMW 4 Series and this was a purchase option applied vie software update.

Lets hope

I think (poor memory, me) it was on this forum that someone had mentioned that the IM5 and IM6 for the UK and Euro markets don't have the relevant sensors, nor the matrix headlights other markets seem to have.
