Hi,

Having gone from no AC charging, I have just had my car fixed and updated. Now it seems we can't stop it charging - the car is ignoring the charge limit that is set.

For example last night it went from 63% to 100% despite an 80% limit set and visible both in the app and on the car.

I believe other people have had this problem. My question is: did you get it resolved and what did it take to fix it?

Is it a SR LFP battery? Mine doesn’t stop if I set a limit on R21 or now on R33.

I’m guessing it’s not really supposed to on that type even though the feature appears available and doesn’t work as it’s better for the LFP battery range estimation if you charge to 100%. You can’t set a limit on the LFP battery Model 3 for that reason.

I don’t have the ability to set a charge limit on my SE SR. Never had.
Can you post a picture of how you are able to? (Despite it not having any effect as you say)

Also the OP has a long range model as per his profile. And it definitely should work.

Don't forget the specialist advice from the technical experts. Try turning it on and off.... The old home button reset?

If you have the app, only using the app is better. Some settings (charge limit, scheduled charging) are at times changed in the background when the app has a setting stored in the cloud and then this gets sent to the car overriding the cars setting.
So if you want to set a charge limit or scheduled charge and you have the app, only ever set those through the app for consistency.

I can set it through the app using the settings in icon on the charging section when it’s on charge. It saves it and says what mode it’s in (long range or battery care) but it just ignores the set limit and carries on charging.

Picture please? What version of the app are you running? It is definitely a bug you shouldn’t even see that setting.

SE SR does not work with setting limits due to the different battery type to the LR/Trophy

It’s the up to date iPhone app. The car also displays the two modes on the infotainment and you can click on them to see the description but can’t select them. The car is on R33 but was the same on R21.

I’m not worried about it as I was surprised it shows but thought the App might be seeing the same thing.

If you have an SE there is no way to limit the battery charge as by design the batteries are safe and meant to be charged to 100%. Sometimes I saw the settings to do it but they won't work. I owned an SE before I moved to LR.

If you have a LR or Trophy - I've always found the charge limit to be hit and miss, sometimes it works sometimes it does not. Things that help are playing with scheduled charging option as this does seem to impact if it works or not.. I've not worked out the combo but sometimes I wake up to 70% sometimes I wake up to 100%

Mine did it once when it was new, it's not done it since, it might work ok next time. 😉

Ok, I have tried rebooting the infotainment and adjusting the limit directly in the car.

It (80% limit) was ignored again last night. Car charged up fully in the charge window - this time that was from 47% to 89% (I only have a 4 hour schedule so it didn't have time to get to 100%).

Any other ideas before I contact the dealer again?

Might be a daft thought but are the CCUs different between the SR and LR? Has the garage fitted a SR unit so the car thinks that its a SR battery?
No, I still have all the pins and besides it isn't that she doesn't display a charge limit - she shows it and I can change it, she just doesn't obey it.

Fairly sure she needs another bug fix somewhere else.

Foxy has gone from shyly shaking her head and turning away from the charger to guzzling every last drop!

Looks like its another visit to the garage :(. On the bright side you could ask them to install the update that enables the steering wheel r/h button turn off/on the LKA? Tell them its giving you awful trouble :). Its described in the software update thread.

The CCU is an Electronic Control Unit (ECU), not to be confused with the CCS charging socket. Ian's idea does seem unlikely, but I suppose it's possible.
Yes I know that! I left myself open to that really though...

What I meant was they'd hardly leave me with a charge socket with all the pins and then switch in a single phase CCU - assuming I had been switched over to a SR setup I would get the whole bundle including port.

Now yes, whether it is 3-phase or single phase makes no difference to whether it stops at a charge limit, that's down the battery chemistry so is almost certainly just software which can be updated.
