hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone changed the infotainment unit in their MG5? It's a excite, LR, pre FL version. I'm looking at getting second hand unit on ebay, is it a straight swap, or are these units coded to the VIN or something? Thanks!

What's wrong with your existing unit?

I checked loads of leads/phones but no luck. AA worked for a little wile after i got the car, but then it just stopped and never worked again. MG had a look at it twice, but they cannot figure it out but are not keen to change the whole infotainment unit.
I tried with wireless dongle, but still no joy.

Pretty sure its not possible with these cars. The screen and software control the safety features inc lane departure, cruise control and for major settings. I got one of those wireless usb air play dongles. Works great

Have a look in the usb socket for damaged or bent contacts, possibly even something stuck in there.

I assume the wireless AA module you tried also plugged in there?

Tried all of these, nothing helped. Took it to the dealer, checked some stuff and quoted me over a £1000 to change the infotainment unit. That's why I was thinking about getting a 2nd hand unit off ebay and changing it myself, I'm just not sure if it's a straight swap.

So hard to know, the same infotainment unit is in e.g. long range and standard range pfl models and I believe the face lift models as well but the firmware will be very different I'd think.

Why not take out the current display and look at the connections and decide from there. Are they just basic display connections or are there any specific smart connections ?
