ChargeMap in Britain

I find that I can use my Chargemap card with Ionity EV chargers but then have to pay in Euros plus a foreign currency charge.

Ionity is expensive at around 89p per kWh; Chargepmap makes it even more expensive.

I emailed Chargemap to ask why I pay for electricity in Britain in euros and the reply from Joan Chargemap is: Chargemap is a french company that's the reason why all our customers are charged in Euros.

I suppose that my Chargemap should only be used in countries that use euros.

In the UK you're better off with an Electroverse card as that (usually) gives discount at Ionity (and other) chargers. Plus a Charge Place Scotland card for up here.

ChargeMap is excellent for touring France. A must have if you holiday there in your EV!

Yes, I have an Electroverse card and Charge Place Scotland was useful until I lost the card! Now I simply charge at home and use the Gridserve app on motorways (up to the end of September when they had 20% discount!).

Yes, but I checked this and it seems there's a monthly subscription: Tesla owners pay on a pay-as-you-go basis, with an average price of 67p per kilowatt hour (kWh). There's also a monthly membership for £10.99 per month, which reduces the cost to around 53p per kWh. Non-Tesla owners pay 77p per kWh.

I am not sure where those numbers come (perhaps the peak 4 hours) but if you look at Perth or Dundee (or most other sites) then the non-member fees are considerably lower and member fees are about 12p lower still. I am currently a member but most months I expect non-member rates will make more sense. I think Tesla open all prices are an example of how things should be and my main complaints are that not all sites are open to all and that Stirling and Edinburgh need Open To All sites.

I charged at the Tesla sites at both Todhills and Gretna Village Outlet at the weekend. In both cases the non-member standard price was 48p per kWh. Yes, there are peak rate prices (61p) but that's only between 4pm and 8pm, and even the peak rate price is still no higher than the discounted Gridserve price. I have no idea where you're seeing 67p or 77p. ?‍

I think I saw this when I was a bit lazy and tried to find the info from a simple Google search. The pages it gave me were a year or two old.

I now have a bookmark to the Tesla site's page:

Electroverse cards work on Chargeplace Scotland chargers.
