Common sense at last from NCAP ?

They do ... but the tests are specific, controlled test scenarios that don't seem to take account of UK infrastructure.

The tests are done on perfect marked roads. That's the problem. Drive this thing on a "normal" road and it's a killer.

I would not call it a killer. But it can be potentially dangerous for multiple reasons.
True, they test it in standardized conditions. But not necessarily only in perfect conditions.
There are studies simulating true road conditions. Several different version of lane assistance were tested. Interesting results came out of them.

But obviously a bad early version LKA system has passed the NCAP in the MG4, so the simulation has not worked.

I was referring to studies, scientific studies. Nothing to do with NCAP.

I suspect it's not actually going to make much difference.

I think the problem is most companies don't actually design the implementation and just think throw it all in a screen. If it's done properly, the right things are kept as buttons then IMO screens are OK for most.

During 99% of my journeys I need indicators, wipers and thats about it. All the other stuff I don't need access to while driving.

(I'm not counting Nav etc as thats something that is never going to include physical buttons so semi out of scope IMO)

Because it works independently from the regen modes?

IMHO an option to turn On/Off LKA with a single press could be added to the Star buttons, but as a Long press rather than a quick press. That would a) give an easy way to quickly turn it off (as the manual says you should do in some circumstances), and b) avoids the issue of accidentally turning it on/off by tapping the button inadvertently.

(Long press functionality is already implemented - in some cars, like mine, you can long press the left-middle button to toggle between ACC and TJA).

NCAP wants the opposite. It should not be changed too easily.

Common sense? From NCAP? Don't think so. Most common sense would be to dismantle NCAP and re-establish a new organization with people who actually own and drive cars.

Why does it have to be so hard to sit in a car and drive off without having to push a single button? It's a car, not a frigging helicopter.

I sent an email to NCAP in regards to the above, the response i received was, "not our concern" and
"it's the manufacturers problem to sort out" The email included the Infotainment system and the LKA also auto braking.
I wonder how many vehicles have their ADAS set up either at the Manufacturing stage or at the dealers PDI.
I haven't seen anything on service list, but I've only had 2 services so far

On my MG4 I only miss 3 buttons. Heat for seats and steering wheel and LKA. Rest is fine to do via screen.
