Give it a try….insulation tape on the strike surface of the boot latch.

Will do, I was little nervous about the latch getting stuck with tape, but given the garage have been hopeless...

Don't put a lot on otherwise you might have difficulty opening it again.

I did mine , just a couple of wraps around where it latches sorts it out.

My problem is a rattle from the dash / passenger side. I thought it might be the panel under the glove box so I removed it and it's still there so still to solve it .

No not that. I think it might be behind the dash so I may never solve it. Can't hear it when the radio is on , it's kind of a vibration noise , it's just annoying. It seems to be worse when it's cold first thing in the morning, but still does it at other times too.

Some people have had a rattle from the infotainment unit.

A-pillar trims can also rattle.

Yeah , it's not the screen, or the glove box . I might find it eventually but I think it might be behind the dash somewhere so maybe never fix it. Not really any issue , car is so quiet you hear everything. ??

No I have removed the trim panel and it's still the same. I now need to put it back and look elsewhere.

Sorry for the late reply... I'm glad you sorted it out.
I've attached a picture of the final state of the bung (after twisting and pulling out a bit) and the tape wrapped around the loop (it may be that either one of them has done the trick).

Hi. The tape solution did not work for me.
It has been 12k kilometers since I bought the car and there has been a slight noise coming from the rear since the beginning.
I will try the other bung solution and post the result here. I ordered a cheap screwdriver set for this.

The tape in the picture is not on the latching part of the lock. It is better placed on the right hand side of the loop as it is pictured.

I'm posting what I just did, but the noise continued either way.

A simple wrap of insulation tape on the strike surface of the boot latch has fixed it totally! Was getting a creak in the rear of my MG4 as the car body frame flexed a little heading down the ramps into my underground car park. Also greased up the rubber stoppers and surfaces of the boot lid.
But it was the insulation tape wrapped round the boot catch as per Mg4nick’s photos above…although I note he didn’t cover the strike surface of the catch.

Mine started developing the creak noise at around 1 year old, thought of some frame torsion related noise... Definitely trying the tape thing now!

Great success! Only a couple of wraps in the "lower" portion of the catch, the one facing to the back of the car, did the trick!
