Considering swapping MG4 for an MGS5 - Test Drive Thoughts.

The monthly payment is higher though. I wonder what they are doing to get it lower.

I wonder if it will be better to do this or wait for pre-reg. Take the 0% and stick the money in an ISA or shares, or wait for a few k discount up front.

Does it say anywhere what you get with the car? A charging cable, a granny charger, mats, how many years of map updates and app support etc?

I'm thinking that because this car is sold in China as well the accessories will be cheap and readily available on AliExpress.
Just remember regarding Aliexpress accessories, it's almost exclusively LHD stuff on there, so whereas things like mudflaps will be fine, floor mats and other RHD specific things wont be available.

There are several eligibility options detailed on MG's website. That seems to be the easiest to comply with.

Thanks, it just seems very strange that you pay them £50, then you seem to have to pay MG a £150 fee as well, and then you get thousands off the price of the car.

At this point I usually mention something about gift horses and dentistry...

Well, yeah, I just get nervous with the "Money Saving Expert" type "one weird trick" things that promise to save you thousands. I also don't like being committed, even a little bit, up front. I have to talk myself into it and then just do it before I change my mind!

I was thinking I could order one before my fossil's MOT is due, but if it takes 3 months then that's out and I'll be tempted to wait another year if it doesn't need expensive repairs.

Is this sort of thing common for other manufacturers?

Yes. Most have similar schemes.

I always think that if MG dealers are happy to sell cars at affinity pricing, they'll also sell them for that price to anyone who can haggle properly as well, at least at ends of months where they need to make up sales targets and such. Just offer to pay the affinity price as a serious buyer and if they don't agree, you walk out. It won't be very long or take many dealer visits before they come chasing after you with an offer that matches it somehow.

How am I only hearing about this now?!
They're usually limited to certain groups, like MG Affinity is.
Groups like first responders, armed forces personnel, employees and their immediate family, etc.
It varies from manufacturer to manufacturer.
Affinity is (I think) rare in that you can qualify by simply joining the owner's club.

I asked about it and although you get a cash discount, if you want PCP the rate is 6.9%! The 0% offer is not available with Affinity, at least according to the dealer I spoke to.

Yes, Affinity mainly helps cash buyers. If you want to finance you may find the Affinity deal is no better or worse.

Would be interested to know how you get on. We are in a similar situation with PCP and I was planning to hand the car back and get an alternative SUV type. Was considering Elroq, EV3, Renault 4, EC-3 Aircross but the S5 might have to come into the frame too.
Good Luck.
There seems to be a number of MG4 owners approaching the end of PCP, ours is October, so more time than some.
We have also had a good look around the new MGS5, it looks decent, but the arrival of an even newer MG 6 possibly by July has caught my interest, but as mentioned elsewhere, I really like the Elroq, but EV3 is a possibility, no interest in Renault or Citroën yet, but our options are open, such a huge choice available, it going to be a difficult and lengthy process to decide.

Dragging this discussion back to its title....

I went for a test drive in the MG S5 yesterday and the first thing that struck me was how much larger than the MG4 it seemed. Plenty of room inside and easy to get in and out of for those of us with dodgy knees.

I have two criticisms. The back seats are low to the floor so those with longer legs will find their knees up in the air and the rear seat base was short so no thigh support. Alright for shorter journeys but I wouldn't want to be sat in the back for a longer trip.

I also felt the ride was a little choppy as if they haven't quite got the dampening tuned into the weight of the car properly but that might have been because the test car hadn't had the PDI done as it still had the delivery stickers on it and we drove it on trade plates.

Don't get me wrong it is a lovely car but I'm not quite sure it's for me.

The salesman had a demonstrator as his car but had lent it to a colleague which is why we had an unprepared car. We asked him if he liked the car and why. His reply summed up the young salesman of today. He said it was the slot in-front of the phone charging pad.

Like so many others reading this thread, the S5 looks good in many areas, our MG4 Trophy LR is 2 years old in October and on 0% finance, I'm planning to swap it for a larger car with an electric opening boot as our current Hyundai Tucson has, the MG4 boot is too heavy for my wife to open.

We looked at the new MG S5 a couple of months ago, not totally convinced it's for us just yet, there are so many extremely good alternatives available, my current fav is the Skoda Elroq, but the MG S5 is good value and may well end up being the one.

BUT we are holding on until the arrival of the yet unannounced NEW MG S6, very little info is currently available, apparently MG don't announce new models until they are nearly ready for the showroom launch, which could be as early as July.

The MG S6 is an even larger SUV, presumably more expensive than the S5, I've spoken to someone who has seen the S6 in the UK, under wraps, it promises to be interesting to me.

Which way will we plunge? With so much choice and prices being slashed and likely more to follow, one thing is for sure, it will be definitely electric!

The SAIC "Glocal" plan has 4 new BEV vehicles due in the next 3 years and mainstream solid state batteries scheduled for 2027 (approximately doubling energy density). I guess it depends when you have to change and what is available at the time. They also have all sorts of tech they use in cars for other markets that has not been built into European cars.
