Driving up the M5 yesterday in a heavy shower I was overtaken by a big truck and heard a large cracking sound as it passed.
Now have a 12" crack leading off from the edge of the window. Insurance have arranged for National Windscreens to come out and replace, but can they refit the window mounted camera and radar sensor which looks glued on, or does it need to go back to MG garage?
Thanks

I had a cracked screen in my Ampera, which had gubbins up behind the rear view mirror and they did that no problem (may have been Autoglass)

Interestingly, to me anyway, at end Jan there were twice as many MG5s registered in the UK as there ever were Amperas.

Interestingly they cannot do this on VW apart from at specialist centres, but it doesn't follow that they cannot do it on the MG. I would ask how they are going to recalibrate the ADAS.

Interested to hear how you get on, I've a chip bottom dead centre on my windscreen from a rock hit that I suspect might crack at some point.

Had my windscreen replaced on my MG5 LR which I have now sold (waiting for a LR ZS).
Had to wait about 3 months for a replacement to arrive in the country! The glass company have no problem fitting the cameras back but they don't have the correct software to align them again, so it has to go in to an MG dealer for that bit. Doesn't take long and the insurance pays for it.

Had mine done with under 300 miles on the clock. Windscreen place can only source SAIC screens so have to buy them through MG which took a week to 10 days. They then booked me in with the nearest dealer for the recalibration. Whilst waiting on the recalibration, I wouldn't use MG Pilot/ACC

I had a large star crack on my screen. Stone from a lorry passing at speed. Insurance arranged for National Windscreens but had to be booked into a site rather than at home because they needed to recalibrate the camera. They had to link to Bosch technicians in Germany to do the calibration and took about 1 hour with 2 people in the car talking to Germany. They did say it was first one they had done and was not easy. All been working OK and no issues apart from the French low emissions sticker which I will have to reapply for as it could not be taken off the old screen.

I'd spend the tenner or whatever it is and have that seen to before it does become a crack. :)

Windscreen repair excess with LV on my policy is £40, might as well pay the £100 and get a new screen.

.....and the wait for for the screen to arrive and be fitted, and then booking it in at the dealers to have the camera aligned.

Is the delay in getting replacement glass just an MG issue or do other makes have a similar problem?

Don’t want to tempt fate but in over 40 years of driving I’ve only had one cracked windscreen which was replaced within 24 hours.

A 6 week wait seems a bit ridiculous in comparison.

A quick turnaround normally relies on non OEM glass being in stock but that probably isn't available for the MG.

I had a Prius Plus screen crack and it's not a common model and Autoglass had to order a Toyota one in as there weren't any non OEM ones available, but it only took a week to arrive.

As of March, there were no pattern parts available, so had to be a SAIC one and entailed a 7-10 day wait.

Its worth noting that chips/cracks whilst unpleasant to look at, are not a risk to the driver, if left they can lead to water leaks, but waiting a week or 2 isn't going to render you without a vehicle.

Get it seen to, it will cost nothing at the moment, but let it get worse and you need it changed and it will cost access and bother.

I just had mine replaced and had to take it to a windscreen centre and leave it with them for a couple if hour to have the camera and sensors recalibrated. They couldn't do it at my home.
