Customer service - regeneration braking

I asked MG Customer service whether the regeneration strength resets to low every time you restart the car (was I missing a setting) and if so were they considering upgrading the software to correct this. The response was "It is recommended that you take your vehicle to a MG dealership for a diagnosis," I have replied advising that was a useless answer and could they do better. It's a shame that MG don't seem to properly look into customer comments - do others on this forum have similar experiences? It's an issue that published car reviews haven't addressed.
My own part solution is to set the lower right hand steering wheel favourites button (the star) so a press moves the regeneration braking level up one - so two presses get into my usual strong state. Easier than delving into the screen once I have started driving.
set up a profile to include all the brake rates, driver assists, etc. in MG Pilot Custom. Just use swipe down and select the MG Piot Custom at startup to set it all.

Its perhaps strange that the software in the MG5S defaults differently but that's life! I have set up the right hand star button (lower of three) so two presses move the regeneration to level 3 which suits me. The behaviour of the car in its first 100 yds soon reminds me to do this.

I think that OPD is the same as 3 but brings you to a stop. The dashboard symbol is, indeed, S.

Is OPD available at 100% battery level? In my MG4 LR Trophy its only available below 96% (used to be 89% but changed somehow)

Re-gen on any level setting will be at its weakest, when the pack has been charged to 100%.
Simply because there is no available space for the regained energy to be absorbed.
When the pack capacity drops, then re-gen strength will be restored as space in the pack becomes available.

Sorry what i meant was in my MG4 im not able to turn OPD on until the SOC has dropped below 96%. Some have said in the S5 OPD is on at start up. With the 4 you have to turn it on every time. Just wondering if it stays on, does it stay on when charged to 100%

It won't go on at 100%! It needs room in the battery for the regen charge. If not in OPD it will slowly increase the regen level as the battery discharges. We assume OPD uses a regen level about 3, so unless there's enough room in the battery for that level you can't select it.

Maybe the S5 does it differently OPD can can be selected before there's any regen available, and it works like level 3, just increasing regen to max as battery discharges. But I haven't been in an S5 so this is only surmise.

On the S5 the OPD is not defaulted to ON on boot up directly, the preset default mode is normal.
You are able to set your personal preferences of some of the safety features and save them to a custom setting, in order for the car to remember them.
When you first boot up the car, it will default the car to the factory settings.
To enable your own personal preferences that you selected, you have to swipe down from the top of head unit screen and hit the custom button.
Your MG Pilot personal settings are enabled.
However, I have tried increasing the default re-Gen from normal to high, as the boot up preferred option, but it will not save it for the next boot up., which is annoying.
I believe you can set one of the buttons on the steering wheel to bring up the re-gen options and you can choose from there.
Therefore I don’t think it will remember the OPD as he default preference either then on start up tbh.
It’s really odd why MG have coded the boot up default to normal and re-gen 3 on some models and normal and 1 on the S5 ?.
Even stranger that it will not save it, as part of your personal preferences list either.
What is that all about ?.

Yes, if you select OPD, as long as you remain in normal, it keeps working regardless of the state of charge. If you change our if normal it pushes it out of OPD. Regardless, you still get the regenerative braking performance may be decreased warning you get in the MG4 but it works and works well.

It is quite a clever OPD implementation. If you're travelling at speed, say 50 on a dual carriageway when you take foot off it doesn't immediately start rapid braking, there's a period of coast which is what you usually want in those situations when you are slowing down gently from speed to tackle around about etc. However, it's lower speeds, say 30. It slows you much more quickly and strongly. If you have comfort braking selected, it also does a really good job in the final few feet of bringing you to a stop when out jolting or feeling abrupt.

Just a tiny wrinkle. If you don't put your seatbelt on, it doesn't enable OPD. Seems perfectly sensible and reasonable to me!

Im aware you cant charge a battery more than 100% my question was more of having to turn it on/off. I’ve been told other cars are able to have OPD setting on at 100% charge
