Hi There,
Has anyone hardwired a dashcam into the fuse box of a 2025 HS Trophy PHEV?
Are there any spare batt or acc locations or must I tap into existing fuses, and if so which fuses?
I would prefer to use an ODB power source but the dashcam supplier says parking mode can only work reliably if hard-wired.
Cheers.

i got a schedule with Halfords to install a dashcam. they are planning to install using OBD. had 2nd thoughts and looked it up in some youtube vids. got convinced in one of the vids there, as long as install is using the right OBD, says there it should be all good. For my one, Halfords will be using a nextbase OBD for dashcam installs.

Thanks for that - if possible, can you please reply with your opinion when the install is complete?

see my thread here for the Cyberster I don't know if yours is similar, but some other MG models are. Definitely the MG4 which the Cyberster is based on.

That looks like the same fuse box as mine, but some more locations populated. Where do you pick up a ground connection? Cheers.

I need to get hold of one of those piggy back 3 way for those top fuses. Ordered one from amazon but it was too small. Any chance you have a link pls?

Killed my 12v battery while away as my camera was always on and I expected it to be topped up by HV battery but nope.

Thanks

I used the 2 prong connector and it works fine if you have an unused slot like I had. If you need to use an occupied fuse slot you’ll need the 3 pin adapter

Ah OK, so using 2 of the 3 ports obv.

Do you recall the Fuse Port Number and if you used the left and middle or right and middle port?

I seem to remember pretty much all the fuse slots without fuses didnt have any connections behind them.

Im on a MG4 so maybe fuse box not identical, but looks pretty close.

See the photo above in post no 6, I used the rightmost vertical one of the 3 fuses at the top left. It was the only one not in use. The 3 vertical fuses are numbered 44, 45 and 46. The rightmost one is unused. It is marked as fuse 46 in one diagram I saw and 44 in another. The 3 pronged fuses have the power coming out of the centre prong. The fuse tap cables need the power to go in the outside prong (at the very end of the cable). The other prong is only connected via the piggy back fuse of the fuse you are using if using an occupied fuse slot to tap into. If you look at the photo in post 6 above, I have it connected with the outermost prong in the centre slot, and the other prong in the lower slot, and the top one not used. If you turned it around so the cable went out of the top of the fuse box, you would need to use the top two slots, however I don't think that would work because of the large relay box to the right of the fuse slot.

Apologies in advance for going slightly off-topic, but if anyone reading this thread would prefer to have a non-hard-wired dash cam then I can thoroughly recommend this one (link to Amazon): Bestsee Dash Cam (Amazon) . It's currently on offer for £29, and I have used it with my old cars for several years, and it works a treat.

I have just bought an MG HS Phev Trophy and I have moved it from my old car into this new one, and it fits perfectly. It plugs into the cigarette lighter, and the cable length is perfect. I found I could easily hide 98% of the cable by just pushing it behind the fittings of the car (can't really explain it in words), so only a small portion (from the cigarette lighter to my left knee) is visible). Works a treat - comes on when the car ignition is started, and stops when the car ignition is off, so it does not drain the battery.

I realise that this is not what some people want (they want a 24/7 battery source, so need it hardwired) but it works perfectly for my needs (and I suspect for others).

Its not the requirement for power when switched off that motivated me to hardwire my Dashcam, but the neater installation. The Dashcam I just fitted to my Cyberster had a Cigarette Lighter plug which I have had in a Mercedes for several Years, but the Cyberster only has a Cigarette Lighter socket in the Boot, so couldn't get to that. I have been using a cable with a USB plug as there are 2 in the centre armrest cubby box, but it is neater wiring it to the cabin fuse box, and it leaves the USB port free to recharge the phone.
