Dealer evidence of car en route / estimated delivery

Further to varying stories from dealers stating the card in the way, other than rely on good will what evidence could I politely ask a dealer for to avoid being let down? For example a oc screen showing dealer allocation/ VIN etc. I didn't want to appear u trustworthy but have heard so many stories on the forum if people being let down I'm just looking fir some reassurance.

In my case they showed me the screen of their (group-wide) allocation. I chose the required model and colour (from the available allocation) and they assigned that one to me. The listings include the VIN so that's how I know what mine is (supposed to be) - the chassis number (VIN) is listed on my order form.

Anyone know if there's a way of telling the model, SE or Trophy from the VIN and what would the section be that denotes a Trophy model..?
