Do I need to carry cable?

All of my charging except one occasion has been on my granny charger at home.

That one occasion was from a High Street charger, before I received the granny charger, and that charger was "tethered".

Can anyone think of any reason why I am carrying around the big heavy charging cable in my lower boot space? What is the use case for it? Are not all chargers tethered?
 
My old car came with both granny charger and type 2 cable. In 3 years I used the type 2 cable 3 or 4 times and the granny charger wasn’t used at all.

I didn’t get either of these cables with my S5 but I’m not too worried about it.

Purely personal choice and depends how far you travel off the charge friendly routes.
 
Look at it this way, wherever you charge, you'll always need the car and a cable, so it's best to keep them both together, that way you can never be caught out, and you have to keep it somewhere, so why not in the car. My Type2 cable and Granny cable both live in the car at all times, so I'll never be anywhere in the car without a charging cable.
 
I am no longer carrying any cables. I never use them - the only time I used the granny was at home to test AC charging when my CCU failed and the only time I used the Type 2 cable was at a hotel just to be able to say I'd used it.

They are dead weight for me. I can charge at home and on long journeys (I've done many now over years) I have never had an issue finding an available and working CCS charger.

It is similar for me to carrying a Jerry Can of spare fuel. There was a time when this was more common, but not now.

We don't even have spare tyres any more, so why the cables?
 
I have never used the type 2 and used the granny at home till I got a wall unit. I feel safer withem but in reality I could survive without them.

I carry all three, cable , granny and spare wheel.
 
Do you also have a 12V battery booster, 10mm spanner to disconnect the 12V battery?

Not sure what the difference is between an emergency battery pack and a 12v battery booster, or am I missing something obvious?

But yes to the 10mm spanner.

The latter sits in the centre console between the driver and passenger seats and all the other stuff in the boot. And, even with a pretty full load, e.g., four adults and holiday luggage, I still average about 4 miles per kwh.
 
An emergency battery is one with a Type 2 connector that can give you a few miles in your HV battery pack if you run out. Maybe an extra 5-10 miles.

A battery booster is a 12V battery pack in case your LV battery dies.

In which case, it's the battery booster I have. I wasn't even aware there was such a thing as the described emergency battery!
