My god this is painful.

I once had less than 10% charge left so I used Shell to recharge. Firstly they said 97p per kWh. I was on holiday so whatever I wasn't bothered. The charger and experience was perfect.

Anyway, few weeks later I get the bill they have charge 74p per kWh so I was actually happy. Then they tried to take money from my account. My bank rejected them and stopped my card saying something like they are protecting me from something or other. I have used them before so I don't know what they are doing now.

I have now tried multiple ways to contact them including phoning the hot line as if I am at a charger to get someone, ANYONE, to help, but they are all hopeless and cannot help.

Now they have sent me another invoice but their account has an IBAN number and a UK sort code. My bank cannot verify the account number with their name so they won't pay. I have again written to them and got a automated reply with a reference number saying they will reply within 5 days. It has now been 10 days and all I got is another invoice.

How hard is it to fracking pay them !!!!!

Anyway, I will rather have root canal without anesthetic than use shell recharge again. Which is a shame, they have good hardware and experience but their organization is hopeless.

I had a similar experience in 2021. It's a shame to see things have not improved. I have not used Shell Recharge since either.

I have never had a problem with my local Shell Recharge, I just tap my bank card to start the charge, where it takes £55 from my account, and then tap the card again to end the charge, with the refund for what I didnt use coming back almost instantly

There were no problems with actually getting the charge into the car, just the billing process using the Shell Recharge app with linked card.

Just cut my Shell Recharge card up and deleted the app. Shell had blocked the card and prevented me from adding a debit card, saying I should just use my debit card at the charger!

If you need to then Electroverse covers it anyway. :)

I tried to charge my MG5 SR at a Shell station last week in Ipswich. There were 4 chargers. I tried to start a charge at two of the pumps but, despite them saying card accepted, nothing happened. I tried two different cards and then gave up. I decided to try the nearby Instavolt chargers but the car refused to start. It displayed "HV Fault" and wouldn't go into Ready mode. Fortunately I had recently fitted an isolator switch to the 12V battery in case this ever occurred. I isolated the 12V battery and waited a few minutes before reconnecting, allowing the car to reboot. The car went into Ready mode and I was able to drive away, but it kept saying that there were various faults such as "Auto-hold inoperable" etc. Fortunately the faults all cleared within a few miles of driving to the Instavolt which charged the car with no problems whatsoever. Needless to say, I have no intention of using a Shell pump in future.

The raft of faults always appears after a battery disconnect and clears after you've been driving for a short time.

I've just used my local Shell Recharge using my Electroverse card with no problem.

I just connected the cable, swiped my Electroverse card and it started charging. Locked the car and took the dog for a walk. Got back and swiped the card again to stop the charging and unplugged the cable. No £55 upfront fee, no PIN, couldn't be easier.
